Hey, does anyone have any recommendations for places to see or things to do roughly along this route? Looking to experience as much of Sweden as possible! Thanks in advance.

Flygvapenmuseet i Linköping.
Vadstena kloster
Alvesta kloster ruin
Gränna candy
There’s very nice café outside Mjölby: Open New Doors Bahnhof
Vadstena is an interesting town to visit, close to it is Alvastra cloister ruins as well as Omberg, which is really a good place to go hiking. It is an interesting place, because it is a hill with lake Vättern on one side and the flat plains on the other side.
[Tiveden National Park](https://maps.app.goo.gl/LCNcxuGBtpGJ4U8g7)
[Gränna](https://maps.app.goo.gl/dKWKJcsXpjVsNVRe9).
TomTits i Södertälje
The Gothenburg archipelago is beautiful and not very expensive to visit
Rök runestone, Bråviken (north shore), Trosa, Norrköping etc.
Visit Gränna, they have the best polkagrisar (a type of Swedish candy).
Göta Kanal
https://www.gotakanal.se/en
Stop by Gränna and buy one of each flavor of Polkagris they have. Also you can take a detour to Ljungsbro when you are near Linköping and visit the chocolate factory Colette’s store (you are not allowed inside the factory), also it is conveniently close to Berg and Bergs slussar.
Edited: changed the wording a bit.
If you like candy, you have the cloetta factory in Ljungsbro, where they sell candy. They also have a smaller shop in Gamla Linköping which is a part of Linköping which takes you back in time. Google pictures of “gamla linköping”. If you’re into the old houses go there instead of the factory in my opinion.
But if you head to the factory you can visit Bergs slussar which is close by. Its a part of Göta Kanal which is a canal with floodgates. You have minature adventury golf there and you can take a swim in Roxen which is at the lowest point of Bergs slussar.
Brunneby musteri is like a farmers market in the same area with localy produced jams, ciders, lemonade and so on.
Passing by Lidköping, Läckö Slott is a beautiful castle right on the edge of lake Vänern. Beautiful sight and you can walk through and all around this magnificent castle.
There’s also a lovely restaurant right next by, serving Swedish cuisine influenced by 17th century vegetables and other regional ingredients, all of course grown locally or fished in Vänern itself.
I would drive along the coast of Vättern from Ödeshög to Gränna (it’s the other way around) instead of the highway
Läckö slott in Lidköping, definitely
Visingsö is a fun visit if you’re taking the southern route past Vättern! Brahehus too!
Surprised no one has mentioned, the Reddit -favourite, Borås yet?
In Norrköping [https://www.arbetetsmuseum.se/](https://www.arbetetsmuseum.se/) and the river walk.
In between Norrköping and Linköping on the old road lies Löfstad slott which worth a stop [https://lofstad.se/](https://lofstad.se/)
Outside Linköping, you have Bergs slussar and Vreta kloster ruin.

You also have Rökstenen and Omberg and Alvastra ruin , outside Linköping which worth a visit.-

If you see a Brown sign with a flower on it. Drive on that road instead
Visingsö
Kolmårdens djurpark
Gränna
Bergs slussar
Läckö slott
Omberg
Kinnekulle (kalkstensbrottet)
Lugnås(kvarnstenar)
Mariestad
Tiveden
Askersund
Bråviken
Borås??? (Most rainy place in Sweden)
The Archipelago on both west and east coast e.g Gothenburg (west) and looking at your route; Nyköping, Trosa, Stockholm (east). Sweden has the most Islands in the world followed by Finland.
Along those roads you will not see that much of Sweden. Big motorways that passes outside most places. Get of to smaller roads around Skövde and Skara. Drove there last year. It was spectacular.
Skurugata, outside Eksjö. It’s a short hike that runs through a small gorge/canyon in the forest, and then up a hill overlooking said forest. I can’t recommend it enough!
Gripsholm’s Castle in Mariefred for some bad taxidermy
https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-lion-of-gripsholm-castle-strangnas-sweden
You can go to Sweden’s biggest tank museum “Arsenalen” featuring some vehicles seen nowhere else in the entire world.
As well as Flygvapenmuseet in Lindköping for avionic history and an amazing story about a destroyed plane that was recovered and currently rests inside the museum with most parts of the hull recovered (in pieces).
is it a coincidence that your route basically looks like a miniature Sweden?
Depending on when you’re going and how long you plan this journey to take there is so much to see along this route.
* [Läckö Slott](https://www.lackoslott.se) in Lidköping
* The road between Lidköping and Mariestad is beautiful along the lake Vänern in the summer time
* [Gustavsvik](https://gustavsvik.se) indoor water park in Örebro
* [Örebro Slott](https://orebroslott.se) is a well preserved castle from the 14th century
* Stockholm is a couple of days on its own with the tremendous amount of museums, parks, view points, surroundings and history
* Both Norrköping and Linköping have multiple historically important landmarks in Swedish history
* Outside of Linköping you’ll find [Bergs slussar](https://www.gotakanal.se/en/along-the-canal/bergs-slussar) which is one of, if not the tallest lock staircase along the spectacular [Göta Kanal](https://www.gotakanal.se/en), a man made river that all in all connects the east coast of Sweden with the west coast
* Linköping also have the [Flygvapenmuseum](https://flygvapenmuseum.se/en/start/), a museum about the unique history of the Swedish air force
* Further on you have [Gränna](https://jkpg.com/en/granna-sweden/), a small town on the east banks of lake Vättern most known for the origin of the [polkagris](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polkagris)
* Then you get to my home town, Jönköping, so I’ll probably be a bit biased. First of all, the stretch of highway coming from the north into Jönköping has been awarded the [most beautiful piece of road in Sweden](https://viivilla.se/husliv/sveriges-vackraste-vag-framrostad-har-ligger-den/), just saying…
* Then you have [Vätterstranden](https://jkpg.com/en/jonkoping-huskvarna/vatterstranden/), a 1,5 km (~ 1 mile) long beach along the southern end of Lake Vättern.
* There are also numerous parks, viewing points and walkways around the other [two lakes](https://www.naturkartan.se/sv/jonkopings-lan/munksjon-rocksjon) in the middle of the city
* In Huskvarna you have the [museum of the Husqvarna factory](https://husqvarnamuseum.se/se/hem/); a factory that has been up and running since the mid 1600’s and has produced everything from weapons and cast iron stoves to motorcycles and sewing machines
* Leaving Jönköping to the west you’ll find Borås which, despite its reputation of being a absolute bore of a city actually has had a significant impact on the [Swedish fabric and textile industry](https://boras.com/textilhistoria/)
* I have chosen not to mention the crazy amount of nature reserves along the way since that would have made the list probably twice the size. But search for them and you’ll find all the info you need!
Then you’re about done with the road trip from central Gothenburg to Landvetter Airport. 😉
If you have any further questions of want to know more about something specific, don’t hesitate to ask in DM. I’ll be glad to help!
