Cabinet approves new law which will ban restaurants and pubs withholding tips from staff

  1. I’m surprised that was legal here in the first place. Hell, even the US prohibits employers from *directly* stealing their employees’ tips (though I guess being allowed to pay your tipped staff less than 30% of the already grossly inadequate minimum wage is theft enough…).

  2. Ha guy in my class who acts like a dick has a job as a dishwasher and was flexing how he does fuck all but still gets a share of the waiters tips. Sucks for him and I couldn’t be happier

  3. Is it bad that I used to keep mine all the time?

Like, I provided the service for the table. Why shouldn’t I keep it? 🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. I used to work in a pub a few years back to keep me ticking over when I returned to the country.

If the till was ever down money, straight out of the tip jar. Owner wouldn’t even think about trying to figure out why the till was down money, easier to just literally steal money off minimum wage staff.

I even said it would encourage any chancer to nick money out of the till, seeing as there’s be no repercussions or effort to find out what happened, but nope, tips straight into the till.

I was out of there in a flash.
