Despite European hopes (and more than €100m) being invested in the technology, contact tracing apps have only succeeded in tracking 5% of registered cases since they were introduced in the EU. The lack of public confidence in the scheme has proven to be an insurmountable hurdle.

  1. Rumor says, in Germany there were more requests to tracking apps from police than from health departments.

    You have to give people something, then they will freely give up anonymity and 100% embrace 24/7 tracking.

  3. Its more of an institutional and opinion issue than technolgical. Taiwan and SK’s own covid containment was greatly aided by the system.
