College student here. Needed a temporary place to stay for a few weeks and got one in ballyfermot. Heard later on that it’s a dodgy area, and there was even a shooting about a 18 min walk away from where I’ll be living (https://www.rte.ie/news/2022/0118/1274467-ballyfermot-shooting-charged/). Is it alright temporarily? I needed a place near the city centre for a few weeks that won’t break the bank but i can’t seem to find anything for 3 weeks ish that isn’t a hotel charging me 1 grand or a cheaper hostel sharing with 16 strangers.

Ah, it doesn’t have the most savoury clientèle, if that’s what you’re asking…
Depends where abouts, Ballyfermot seems to cover a big enough area. Generally everything to the east of the Kylemore Road is grand (closer to Inchicore/Kilmainham)
Recent madness on Thomand Rd notwithstanding.
You’ll be fine.
For 3 weeks it will be grand. It’s only a short amount of time. If it’s an area you don’t know just take a few extra precautions as you would with any area you don’t know.
It’s grand
Rather live in Ballyfermot than eastern Ukraine.
Not gonna sugarcoat it like everyone else, Ballyfermot is definitely amongst the most dangerous places in the country. Nothing will probably happen to you, but do be very weary everytime you head out. I’d avoid going out at dark if I were you
Watch where you go in the dark, try not to go alone. Watch yourself generally and your stuff. Ballyfermot has some of the finest people in the country but unfortunately a good few of the worst sort of scrotes. And a few real bad eggs.
For three weeks it’s OK. Just don’t walk through the church yard
Lovely place with lovely people. Great transport links into town, to Liffey Valley, to Blanch.
Some decent boozers, some shite boozers.
Phoenix Park is in walking distance
Ger’s Deli for brekkie rolls.
Stay out of Cherry Orchard and you’ll be grand.
Tasty Treats.
No worse than many other places I have lived in Dublin. I’ve been in tallaght for three years and had no issues personally
It’s great go get yourself a gers deli and enjoy the crack.
Near cherry orchard hospital/Tesco is awful. Sarsfield road end is grand
Went to college in ballyfermot, never had a problem.
Yes . Yes it is .
Lived in ballyfermot for 10 years, only moved on recently, lower ballyfermot is absolutely grand (the part closest to Inchicore/Chapelizod), very wide mix of people, few scumbags alright but always felt they were outnumbered by decent folk, I never once felt unsafe there
You’ll be grand. Source: living there myself for years.
You’ll be grand, lived here 5 years and never felt unsafe.
I’ve lived here all my life, once you’re not running around looking to start a fight, you’ve absolutely nothing to worry about.
A lot of the reputation comes from Cherry Orchard imo (I live right beside it so I hear the robbed cars every night haha) so just avoid if you can. Ballyfermot has a really lovely sense of community that gets overshadowed by negative stories. I hope you enjoy your three weeks 🙂 and get yourself a Ger’s Deli, pride of the place!
An 18 minute walk is yonks away.
It’s not that’s it’s bad it’s just not that good
