I’d like to point out a couple of rhetorical techniques:
>Tom Meert, de organisator van de coronabetoging van gisteren. Hij veroordeelt het geweld en verdedigt de keuze om antivaxers en complotdenkers uit te nodigen als sprekers. “We willen geen filtering, laat mensen zelf kritisch nadenken.”
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Freedom!
But in reality, there still is a filter. He invited the speakers. He selected which ones to invite, and which ones not to invite. He pretends to be objective. It’s the same standard line as any populist politician: “I am the voice of the people” “We capture the underflow” “We say what you think”.
>”Er is geen waarheidscommissie, van dat idee moeten we vanaf. Wetenschap betekent dat je alles in vraag mag stellen.”
… in a structured way, it does not mean that any random opinion has the same weight as the working hypothesis of the scientific community.
>Ik heb ook Marc Van Ranst uitgenodigd. Ik had graag gehad dat hij gesproken zou hebben.”
Of course, because that would elevate the credibility of the speakers that he selected by placing them at the same height as a scientist.
‘Kritisch denken’ is gezever. De slimste mens ter wereld kan 100 jaar ‘kritisch’ zitten denken en hij zal nog geen sikkepit wijzer zijn over het effect van verschillende neuraminidases op de transmissibiliteit van influenza.
De enige methode om daarin inzicht te verwerven is naar wetenschappers luisteren of hun werk repliceren. Als ge te lui zijt om één van die opties te kiezen dan is uw mening verkondigen even nuttig als pinkers op ne BMW.
Wat een bullshit zeg. Retoriek die elke interviewer met gemak onderuit zou moten kunnen halen.

Persoon die zijn eigen onderzoek doet op internet: “Doe je EiGeN OnDeRzOeK, bruh!”
Sociale wetenschapper: “Uit ons onderzoek blijkt dat ‘iedereen hun eigen onderzoek laten doen’ in de praktijk vooral fungeert als discursieve hack om het centrum te intimideren zodat ze meer zuurstof geven aan de valse beweringen van anti-vaxxers en samenzweringsdenkers.”
Persoon die zijn eigen onderzoek doet op internet: “Ja, nee, moat, dat is niet wat ik bedoelde met je eigen onderzoek doen é kerel.”

Highly recommend the full episode of De Afspraak from yesterday to anyone who thinks he has a point or is just interested in this.
He got completely destroyed by the other people on the panel (which included Verlinden which I am personally not a fan of to begin with). He thinks he is facilitating free speech and is doing the world a favor by trying to open up debates again with the people that are lost in their echo chamber of propaganda outlets, basicly. And wants the censorship of those propaganda outlets to end. He then tries to walk the thin line that he isn’t one of the crazy people, and just invites all the crazy people to talk at his rally to try to start debate again with all those lost people. You could tell he is one of the crazies, though. He just doesn’t like to admit it now his rallies have some success and he can create some PR from this.
These ideas can all be considered old by now and offering a platform to promote debunked scientific claims or hate speech just isn’t a good idea. It creates the validity in people’s minds that we are trying to break. Breaking those ideas that have festered in people their minds is difficult, if we knew the magic fit-all solution by now we would be using it.
By the end of the debate on the rally the guy was so angry he was sitting there with his arms crossed and the look of an angry child on his face, while they moved on to a different topic. You could tell exactly there that he was just as crazy as the people he invited to speak at his rally.
Laat ons deze keer het tegenovergestelde doen dan wat er met Driesje is gebeurd en deze persoon geen aandacht geven. Geef deze mensen gewoon geen platform. Voor ge’t weet zijn ze verkozen als onafhankelijke van de VB en worden ze nog schoon betaald om onnozel te doen.
I wonder whether these people believe everyone is rational enough to interpret this information in a correct sense, instead of just taking it as it is into their echo chamber.
Stel u de gemiddelde mens voor en bedenk dan dat zowat de helft van de rest dommer zijn dan die mens. Mensen zelf kritisch laten denken is voer voor brainwashing door slimmere mensen met slechte bedoelingen – kijk anders naar wat het toe geleid heeft in Amerika. Rood en blauw staan daar nu zo lijnrecht tegenover elkaar dat hun land het minst stabiel is in recente jaren.
Die organisatoren hebben een eigen visie en proberen simpelen van geest, die al door dergelijk onzin werden beïnvloed, verder in hun kamp te sleuren. Met desastreuze gevolgen voor de rest.
