Spicy meme

  1. Well. There was also the resource mining and the financial benefit, and the fact that quite a few of the national monuments of these countries have bits of them residing in Britain. But sure – your meme makes sense.

  2. Well guess I’m having fish and chips, I hope you’re happy I was doing well on eating healthier

  3. This meme was funny when someone made it 5 years ago in an actual meme sub. But 5 year old brit bashing memes in this sub have that faint whiff of desperation.

It’s not like there’s a current shortage of real time self brit bashing to around. It’s a country that elected Eton’s most buggered child after all.

  4. We are really throwing stones from our glass house here tbh.

Having said that, people who shit on other countries/races foods are cringe as fuck.

I love Irish stew and brown soda. I also like fish and chips, pie and mash etc regardless of whether other countries like them.

  5. You just don’t really need spices and herbs when it’s easy to keep food from going off. And all your ingredients are always fresh.

Countries with spicy or flavourful food are almost always extremely hot and mostly humid climates. The spice was needed to cover the smell and taste of meat that had sat in 35c sun for days.

Also most of the spicing of food in western was lost during and after WW2. Rationing didn’t finish until well into the 1950s so you had to try and get what you could out of very little ingredients.

  6. The obsession with the English is genuinely so weird. You don’t see these memes on /r/CasualUK lol

  7. I can understand Spain and Italy posting such a meme but its laughable seeing it in an Irish group. Food here is seriously under seasoned not to mentioned boiled to death

  8. Why do I constantly have to read about the UK when I come on on r/Ireland. Can we not start banning these shite posts that are totally irrelevant to my life as an Irish man.

  9. In my admittedly limited experience of British food (been there, mainly London, for short visits maybe 10 times in the last 15 years), their food is far worse than ours. The only place I could get a decent meal were the ethnic restaurants and it’s hard to pick up a decent fresh sandwich or whatever anywhere. The pub grub is appalling because so many of them are owned by chains now.

Ireland at least has half decent delis in most convenience shops and good burgers, greasy spoons etc. Pub grub depends on the pub and you’re guaranteed a decent toasties in most places. You don’t have to pay through the nose to get decent enough grub here. That’s not been my experience of Birmingham, Manchester or London.
