STUC chief Roz Foyer warns it is ‘dangerous’ to block all paths to independence

  1. Agree with this. We need clear rules of the game that everyone can play to – with a defined criteria of what should and should not be the basis for a further referendum being called.

  2. >STUC general secretary Roz Foyer, who declined to say how she voted in the 2014 referendum, said independence is an “unresolved” issue.

We resolved the issue in 2014. The polls have not shifted meaningfully since.

Persuade the majority of the country of the case for independence and that might change.

Until then, please respect the will of the people.

  3. This is another example of how arguments over Independence are getting in the way. She had more interesting things to say.

    >She said of the SNP-led Government: “They also need to take responsibility for the powers that they have here in Scotland and stop blaming Westminster.

    >“I’m only going to accept the ‘blame Westminster’ argument when I know they have exhausted every possible avenue within the powers that are already devolved to them. And I don’t believe they are doing that to redistribute wealth.”

  4. Creating a concrete path for how it can be achieved legally should be the SNPs top priority (in addition to making Scotland as politically and culturally distinct from the UK as possible)

No trying to move the polls, no de facto stuff. Get something entrenched in law, even if it takes a decade.

  5. If you look back to 2013 independence was polling at 23% union support at 72%.

Come the referendum independence got 45% union support dropped to 55%.

This shows the surge in support an independence referendum campaign generated.

Now with support for independence around 45-50%
The chances of a Westminster Government allowing us indyref 2 is slim indeed as the independence camp would be starting from a much better place.

This is why the Unionists immediately go into the ‘once in a generation’ defence rather than ‘ bring it on’. They know they can’t guarantee a win.

So no democracy, no independence. Happy Unionists.

  7. Protect your NHS from the tories, and from the red tories, please.
