Google will spend £730m to ‘reinvigorate’ its UK offices

  1. I understand the need to maintain a top of the line office space when you’re a tech company like Google.

What I don’t understand is a certain mandatory number of days in the office.

Yes some people prefer office working. Some people want to attend at least some days.

But setting an arbitrary limit on wfh days only means you’ll need to offer higher salaries and spending more on office space to ensure high capacity.

I honestly can’t see any sense in forcing a certain number of days. Hybrid working should be about choice. For example, “Hey we have external partners in every day this week please can you attend the office to be with them?” Or “Now that requirement meetings are out the way, I will wfh the next 3 weeks while my only job is to sit and write code”
