  1. Definitely. Worst case scenario, you get a nice peaceful chillout while stuck in there.

  2. Let us know if you survive the drop to the ground floor.

  3. At least it’s a solid excuse not to be able to make it to work.

  4. Make sure you go for a wee before you get in. Nothing worse than getting trapped when you need a wee

  5. Acting up isn’t the worst, it’s acting down very quickly you should worry about.

  6. So why carry a phone if pushing the button takes you through to the lift company?

    For entertainment I guess.

  7. I once did a contracted job that lasted about 2 weeks where the only toilets were on a different floor to where we were working. It only takes one random stop and reset in the middle of travel to frighten you into never use a lift whilst needing the loo again.

  8. Yet again a situation where the word “plummet” could come in useful. That’s twice this week!

  9. Good reason to take the stairs. Part of me feels like these days it’s 50-50 if the notice is just designed to save money on electricity. Probably not worth the risk if you don’t want to get stuck though 🤔

  10. I wouldnt use it even after they said it was fixed. Not a big fan of lifts, i always feel like im suspended by a cable in a box.

  11. 1. Break the lift beyond repair.

    2. Go Home

    3. Call boss that you’re stuck in the lift

    4. ????

    5. PROFIT!!

  12. the lift where I work and has onsite engineering teams broke and a guy was stuck in the lift for over 4 hours. I no longer use the lift. If there’s a sign saying the lift has been acting up, don’t use it.

  13. Depends how lucky you feel or how much time you want to waste I guess?

  14. I wouldn’t ever use that lift again even after they remove the sign and claim that the problem has been “fixed”. Some lifts just seem to have a habbit of breaking down all the time and constantly need repaired but for some reason never get replaced.

Getting stuck in a lift in a worst-case scenario (building goes on fire while you’re trapped) could be the difference between life and death. Fairly certain it can take hours before anyone shows up to get you out.

Also… phone’s break and die. You know how things go wrong right at the times you really need them not to, this is probably one of those, sods-law situation really.

  15. Lifts tend to be fairly effective Faraday cages… So I guess the phone suggestion is just for your entertainment whilst you wait!

  16. It’ll be ‘fine’.

Worst case, if it nobs out, use the emergency call button. The national standard for a lock in is release within one hour.

  17. A part of me wants to go around a town and put this up in multiple lifts.

  18. Myself, I’d be more worried about the building acting up.

  19. I’d use the stairs even if there were murderous villains about. Getting stuck in a lift with no emergency call would freak me the fuck out.

  20. Why don’t they just put a sign up just saying “Nope” instead? Not getting me into a vertical coffin in this state. I’d rather die of a heart attack from using the stairs.

  21. Having been trapped in a pitch black lift for only 5 mins – I would not.

  22. Depends on if you’re going into work or going home. A morning at work stuck in a lift would be nice.

  23. No. 3: Please make sure you don’t have an O2 SIM. The network is really bad in the lift.

  24. Take the stairs I’m not even going to play those games
