  1. The fact this is even being discussed is problematic. If you have a history of this than you should be left to die on a deserted island at best. At worst dropped in a vat of acid. Allowing these people to be parents is just plain wrong.

  2. The article clarifies that this is for *convicted paedophiles.*

It’s not a ‘thoughtcrime situation’. It’s *convicted paedophiles.*

  3. This would be scary in the USA since red states are calling everyone they don’t like pedophiles.

  4. So if an 18 year old dates a 16 year old, He/she could be accused of a sex crime just with a say so. Then later on in years have their children taken from them.

  5. I could hear/provide opinions against broad “paedophile” crime being an inadequate measuring stick for such a brutal penalty… however:

“It covers the most serious sexual offence – rape of a child under 13.”

This is basically the most heinous and IMO unredeemable form paedophile takes. I also don’t believe they can be rehabilitated. Something is wrong with them, and the paedophile recidivism rate is upwards of 50%. It’s not unlikely their children are already victims.

  6. I mean if that’s the case, we should keep all murders away from people because they’re likely to commit murder.

  7. They should be put down, like a dog would if it attacked a child…

  8. I watched this on the news earlier, and the lady (I think she was an mp but not sure) promoting it, said several times that it was to prevent fathers convicted of paedophilia from having access to their kids.

I’m all for the law, but she never once made it seem that it was about parents, just about fathers, which sends entirely the wrong message.

  9. On its own, this is good. BUT given the fascist push to not only criminalize LGBTQ peoples existence generally, but their rhetoric and actions moving towards labeling us all as predators, groomers and pedophiles just for daring to exist around kids or in the public eye, how long until this admittedly good idea law is used to rip children out of the arms of queer parents who’s only real crime was maybe not letting homophobic grandma see the grand kids so she report’s them.

  10. Alright hear me out. There’s some people would through unfortunate circumstances get convicted as a pedo. Like they meet a girl in a 21 and up bar and the girl looks reasonably of age and so on. That said could be a law but let judges make decisions on how it’s applied to cases.

  11. Law should’ve been there a while ago but wonder why it wasn’t

  12. I’ve represented x 2 paedophiles in relation to contact with their children. It was a futile waste of time and money for everyone involved.

  13. How about breathing rights, I don’t believe they should be able to breathe the same air as the rest of us.

  14. Does this mean they will be freed from any obligations like child support?

  15. Disclaimer: not defending pedophiles, because no duh.

Wouldn’t this be a massive human rights overstep? Strikes me a really easy way to normalise restriction and then eventual nonrecognition of rights is to go for the first, morally understandable examples and then work out from there. Considering how in the past LGBTQIA+ populations have been tarred with the brush of pedophillia without cause although this idea seems logical and morally sound, it could easily open the discussion to immoral, oppressive measures.

As far as I’m aware, there is already an ability to remove parental responsability in law under the Children’s Act. Making this automatic just skips the necessary legal process and that feels … not great.

  16. I know this is in the uk, but for those saying this isn’t possible, it’s exactly the plan in the us. WV Senate Bill 197 defines the existence of trans people as “obscene” and bans them from being within 2,500 feet of any school.

Donald Trump has stated that he intends to make being trans illegal. This is all in line with project 2025’s mandate for leadership, which says:

“Pornography, manifested today in the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children, for instance, is not a political Gordian knot inextricably binding up disparate claims about free speech, property rights, sexual liberation, and child welfare. It has no claim to First Amendment protection. Its purveyors are child predators and misogynistic exploiters of women. Their product is as addictive as any illicit drug and as psychologically destructive as any crime. Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned. Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shuttered.”

  17. Wow, I’ve made it 35 years assuming this was automatic. What the fuck

  18. What happened to JUST NOW make them realize that should be a law?

  19. This is a violation of human rights. Don’t let them trick you into giving up your rights by starting with those you see as non-human. They are human, they just made a terrible mistake. They should have the opportunity for reform just like with any other crime. This pretty much labels you a criminal for life with no future. 18-year olds catch these charges too and previous data shows that an uncomfortably high number of fully grown-ass men actually see teenage girls as more sexually desirable than women their own age.

This is a complicated issue and I hate pedophiles just as much as the next person, but you can’t just do this to people. Some of these people have reformed and have raised/are raising families.
