Zelenskyy: Russia must pay a painful price as sole culprit of this war

1. I’ve actually talked about penalties for Russia with my friends, and here are a few things we’ve come up with:

   * Those guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to this and other Russian wars are to be handed over to stand trial
   * Selected officials are to be banned from holding any form of public office for life. Particularly egregious offenders are to be banned from working for the Russian government in any capacity.
   * Russia must pay reparations to Ukraine and other countries it has devastated, along with punitive damages
   * Russia must surrender its entire nuclear arsenal and agree to never manufacture or purchase another nuclear weapon
   * Russia may no longer hold a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council
   * Russia must undertake serious democratic and anti-corruption reform
   * Russia must undertake economic, political and social reforms to prevent the growth of another oligarchy (which is defined here as a government excessively controlled by people who take advantage of their wealth and economic power; one can be wealthy, even obscenely so, without being an oligarch)
   * All Russian elections for the next fifty years are to be monitored by international observers to ensure that they are free and fair
   * The “ethnic” subjects of the Russian Federation (including but not limited to Chechnya, Dagestan, Tannu Tuva, Buryatia, Tatarstan and others) are to be allowed to hold internationally-monitored referendums on independence

2. You break it, you fix it.

   The destroyed lives can’t be recovered, but the Russians can pay for and rebuild every destroyed building and facility throughout Ukraine, including the demining and other were related work.
