I used to cycle to work along the grand canal for about a year. In that year I saw 3 dead horses dumped on the grand canal and one lame one abandoned there. These were all within about 300m of a halting site. Next to the halting site was a field that doubled as a horse pen and dump.
So, this part of the culture should be protected and tolerated should it?
Fucking scum.
Sulkies are fucking illegal. Why am I seeing cunts almost every single day on sulkies with horses attached to them that look malnutritional?
Traditionally there were people who you called to remove dead horses.
Athy every time I think it can’t get worse
Fuck sake, it’s infuriating that people here can treat animals so disgustingly and be allowed to keep them in the future.
The subsection of the travelling community that do this are cunts.
I can’t comment because every time I comment on the these kind of articles about a certain type of people the mods of this sub report me to Reddit and my account gets a warning
Can we just step up our animal abuse laws? Families involved in with sulkie racing should never be allowed to own horses and horses should be easily taken away if found with them. Its maddening seeing how poor animals are treated here, everyone agreeing its awful then changing nothing.
Heavy handed modding of people calling out systemic problems within the traveler community (both on and off this site) is part of the problem. How can any problem be fixed if we don’t address it, and just sweep it under the rug?
This isn’t normal behaviour from civilised people.
Ah Jaysus
…
What’s frustrating here also is Waterways Ireland’s response, saying they haven’t fitted their gates.
These gates are the same as those on the Waterford Greenway which can be opened easily and don’t actually prevent access. They need to come up with someway better to keep them off of it.
This is disgraceful and personally I think…[deleted]
