Could Rishi Sunak be toppled by Tory MPs before the election? | Westminster Source

one of the big questions hanging over
Westminster politics right now is
whether rishy sunak could be ousted as
Tory leader and prime minister before
the next general
election the conservative party has what
is in effect a trigger system where if
one in seven of their NPS want the
leader gone they could be it works by a
system of no confidence letters on the
current numbers that means that 53 Tory
MPS would need to submit one of these
letters to trigger a no confidence vote
so then a thumbs up thumbs down vote is
held on the leader to survive Bry sunak
would need to win a simple majority the
problem is even winning that vote
doesn’t necessarily mean he will in the
long run remain leader Theresa May back
in 2018 won the vote but 37% of Tor MPS
who voted went against her she was gone
within 6 months and Boris Johnson in
2022 one but 41% of his MPS voted
against him he was gone within a month

There is speculation in Westminster that Tory MPs disillusioned with Rishi Sunak could seek to remove his as Prime Minister before the next general election.

Could the Tories really change leader for a third time between elections? Or is the talk just coming from a small number of rebels who do not have the numbers to succeed?

Ben Riley-Smith, The Telegraph’s Political Editor, unpacks what is really happening on no confidence letters and the appetite for change.

  2. What happens if a leadership election is triggered but nobody wants to be a candidate? I've seen some headlines that Penny Mordant doesn't want to become leader right now even though some want her. What if others who are seen as potential candidates feel similarly? I think that at this point changing leader would undermine the party's credibility even more, and whether they choose to go even further right or more towards the centre they are likely to loose the next election badly. What if nobody wants to be prime minister for that loss?

  3. To little to late..the damage has been done.higher taxes , no return, immigration out of control, lawless city and towns, cut backs again and again, higher council tax,
