Good. This should not have taken 43 years. Justice for the victims and their families
Don’t know why it deleted last post as was posted before this one.
But anyway. I will say again. Why has it taken 43 years for this? I really hope these families will finally get justice.
Well done to all the families who fought and fought for justice
Finally. Hopefully that scumbag gets some sort of comeuppance
Thank goodness. Those poor families. Maybe they can finally get justice now.
Hopefully the families will get some peace after this.
Good, decades overdue.
this isn’t justice yet
Justice is done. Now hopefully the families can pursue a civil suit and get the compensation they deserve.
Of course no amount of money can make up for losing your loved ones but maybe now they can have some peace.
Honest question. 48 young people killed is about as tragic as it gets. What does this process achieve in 2024?. Is it about closure for the families?.
The verdict was that an accidental fire probably broke out and chains and obstructions on the fire exits blocked people from getting out. I remember my granny telling me all that back in the 90s. Nobody got prosecuted and it happened 43 years ago so its not going to change regulations around fire safety.
Usually these kind of enquiries are about clearing peoples names but I don’t think anybody ever implied that the poor people trapped inside were in any way responsible for this tragedy.
Taking 43 years to get to this point is absolutely disgraceful but it’s a testament to survivors and the families of the victims who endlessly campaigned for justice for so many years
It’s an incredibly dragged out process.
This shouldn’t have taken 43 years and it’s still not justice. It’s only the conclusion of an investigation.
Excellent use of my tax money!
Reading about this verdict from across the water in Wales, and having read about the fire on many occasions, I’m glad that the final verdict was what the families had always suspected and what it should have been from day one. It’s a travesty that it took 43 years to get there. I know that no specific prosecution against one person can come from this as the person responsible for the club in 1981 is long dead, but the families should be commended for never giving up the fight and making sure their loved ones are remembered.
Edit: so apparently the person responsible is still alive. I hope he’s haunted by the thought that those deaths were because of his decisions for building security.
Remember no ‘suit’ will ever go to prison in Ireland.
Great news for all those involved. Verdict may ground a future civil claim. It’s justice at last for the 48 & the families. It’s also a day to remember chrissy & John keegan. RIP
A jam factory into a nightclub – sure what could go wrong. DCC and butterly have big questions to answer.
What the government should do now is pass a law to make sure that if this ever happens again the people responsible will be held to account in a timely manner.
Instead of that what we’ll get is hand wringing, apologies and empty words (listening to McEntee on Drivetime).
What does this mean? Can the owner/ manager be tried for manslaughter?
