Rip Dickey. One of the best ever.
Check out the Allman Betts Band, which includes the sons of three founding members of the Allman Brothers Band – Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman), Duane Betts (son of Dickey Betts), and Berry Duane Oakley (son of Berry Oakley). Seen them live twice and they are fantastic.
The man was a god, I was so lucky to see him play live a few times.
Rocking some Allman Bros on the way home tonight. RIP my man
Lord I was born a ramblin man
Rest in peace Dickey!
Damn. One of the greatest.
That’s a shame. Now only Jaimoe is left from the original (best) lineup
In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed …one of my absolute favorites..😪
I’m jamming Whipping Post on my Les Paul. RIP to the Rambling Man.
For us southern rockers, this one really hurts. 🙁
This legend. Wow I really relied on his music to get through high school.
One letter away from disaster. RIP
Hope he finds an eternal Blue Sky.
Man, sad day. The Allman’s are probably my all time favorite bands.
One of the greats. A shame he never reunited with the band after 2000
“Dickey Betts, all of the southern rock guitarists, and the old blues players who inspired their music were all heavily influenced by Kiss.” -Gene Simmons
While his most famous songs are from the early years, I recommend for anyone interested to check out Seven Turns. It’s one of my favorite Betts compositions.
Les Paul’s and Rock brought me here…Thank you Dickie
Seeing him and Duane trade notes back and forth in the early 70s was amazing. The first time I saw them, they were the opening act for Chicago in 1970 . I had never heard of them before. I was blown away and went right out and bought their album. I was lucky enough to see them play together several more times , and then a few times after Duane died.
Went to the Ludlow garage to see Dickies replacement in a side act a few years ago. Wish I’d have seen him there all those years ago
Rambling Man was my ringtone for years. I know Duane got all the guitar credit and not unfairly, but Dickie was incredible too. For years my dad thought Duane did the guitar riff on Rambling Man, nope all Dickie. What a guy. Survived a hell of a lot too. Fare thee well sir.
I was just listening to Blue Sky yesterday, rest in peace.
High Falls will be first on the list for the drive home today.
NO ONE…..could make it SOUND like Dicky……smooth as a bottle of jack
RIP.
There was some real static with him and the rest of the Allman Brothers Band- anyone know what the deal was?
May his soul fly free.
I share his last name, interesting! Rip to him.
I’m so sad. I learned how to play guitar mostly by copying his leads. Truly a great guitarist.
