  2. This is not the first time for an attempt to force a two state using the UN. So of course the result isn’t going to be different.

  7. They need to figure out who’s in charge first because, as it stands, the UN doesn’t need another terrorist faction as a member.

  12. No offense, but Palestine has to agree to some simple terms before being accepted into the world of nations.

  13. The fact that Palestine be even eligible for UN membership when one governing body is made up of violent terrorists while the other party pays those terrorists’ families for each Jew they kill. Which government gets recognized within what borders?

  15. Palestine is ruled by terrorists. It would be crazy to have a country with a terrorist government in the UN. Then the organisation would become even more of a bad joke than it is now.

  16. Man, the Palestinians will try just about anything to circumvent direct negotiations. 

    They’re not wrong though; too many in the world are prepared to hand them diplomatic benefits in return for nothing…just to spite Israel. 

    If successful, the Palestinians can attain the benefits of statehood without having to give up their violent national struggle to destroy and replace Israel.  

    This is why the global community must never reward the Palestinians diplomatically unless they are showing up at the table and negotiating in good faith towards two peaceful states.

  21. The point is really rather simple: Palestinian statehood/full UN membership is fine down the line. But granting it now is rewarding October 7th and sending a message to the Middle East that insurgent terrorist tactics will get you what you want on the world stage, which is really fucking dangerous for all non-Arab minorities.

  22. I believe all members of the UN should have at minimum:
    1. Capital city
    2. Official currency
    3. Self or internationally recognized border

    Does Palestine have all 3?

  23. Good. Palestine is run by the PLO and Hamas, both known terrorist organizations – this is an irrefutable fact. They should have absolutely no place as members of the United Nations.

  28. Article XXXI sections 6 & 7 of the Oslo Accords state:
    >6- Nothing in this Agreement shall prejudice or preempt the outcome of the negotiations on the permanent status to be conducted pursuant to the DOP.
    Neither Party shall be deemed, by virtue of having entered into this Agreement,
    to have renounced or waived any of its existing rights, claims or positions.

    >7- Neither side shall initiate or take any step that will change the status of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip pending the outcome of the permanent status negotiations.

  29. Yes. Because they don’t meet the qualifications. A discrete territory with solidified borders, over which they have sovereign control, the laws and governing bodies requires to enforce that control, and recognition of said control by sufficient world powers as a self-governing state.

  30. I don’t think a country led by a terrorist organisation is something that should be allowed into the UN. Then again, Russia is in it.

  31. US has long maintained it would support Palestinian UN membership under conditions (that have not been met)
