Why Palmer’s form for Chelsea doesn’t mean City regret his exit

  1. If he dumps City out of the FA Cup tomorrow, maybe that might be cause to think they done goofed

  2. In the same way we can’t reflect on KDB and Salah leaving, you have no idea what would happen if they stayed, you can’t be sure they turn into the players they do.

  3. Lol City really missing out on Cole to lead them to a mid table battle

  4. Because they have oil money and will never actually have to face the charges like the peasant clubs.

  5. we gave them KDB, now it’s Palmer is their way of giving back lol

soon, it will be liverpool’s time to return the favor for Salah

  6. One thing you can probably be certain of. he would have scored his pen…

  7. Well the few minutes he played for City this season, he was their best and most dangerous asset against us in Community Shield and scored a banger out of nowhere too. So I wouldn’t say he couldn’t show his qualities in a much better surroundings. What an odd article.

  8. It was Palmers own decision to leave. This sub is filled with people who don’t know shit about shit

  9. There’s a 0% chance city don’t regret his exit. Kid is a superstar

  10. He’ll eventually get tired of fighting for top 6 with Chelsea and either come back or leave England

  11. No one except the delusional section of the chelsea fan base think City regret selling him. They got 45m for a fringe player and based on a cursory glance at the table, I think they’re doing quite well without him.

  12. Even with his form at Chelsea I still don’t see where he would fit for city. It seems like he would be fighting foden for his spot and good luck. He’s not an out and out winger which is what city need.

  13. City don’t need Palmer at all to do well, obviously. But should they have kept him? I think so.

If he was a fringe player to never get any game time, that’s fair enough. But they pre-emptively signed a poorer player in the same position that plays a similar way (Doku, fast, direct, dribbler etc).

They lost money on the deal – £35M for Palmer, £55M for Doku.

Palmer is much more useful for registration purposes, coming through the English youth system.

I don’t see how Man City are better off without him.

  14. Yeah they definitely didn’t need his left foot vs madrid …

  15. Why go to lengths to try and justify this? It’s clear Man City made a mistake letting Cole Palmer leave. It’s fine, it happens, every club in football makes these mistakes at some point and Man City are both rich enough and good enough that they will recover from it and still be a top team. If they had kept Palmer (and obviously utilised him) they’d have the title wrapped up by now in my opinion, particularly with De Bruyne’s injuries.

He absolutely has oozed class this season and the only reason to not put him up there with the best attackers in the league is question marks about whether he can be consistent and do this again next season.

Palmer has been the third best player in the league this season in my opinion (Watkins and Rodri are my 1 and 2), any club letting a player of that quality leave is making a mistake.

E: Also all the arguments for City letting Palmer go and not regretting it could be made for Chelsea letting De Bruyne go in 2014. Obviously not claiming Palmer will end up having a comparable career to De Bruyne, but it’s clear he’s a top talent.

  16. In hindsight it looks like a weird move to let him go but at the time, £40m for a player without many senior minutes is a great fee.

I’m happy to see him do well but I don’t necessarily regret it.

  17. Sorry but he was a fringe player, he’s been a revelation for Chelsea as the main man but in peps system? Guardiola will have zero sleepless nights over Palmer going because he’s not a Haaland/KDB level talent and they can replace pretty much anyone.
