Da Amsterdam im Jahr 2023 von Touristen überschwemmt wurde, werden keine Hotels mehr zugelassen

  1. My Mom grew up in Amsterdam and I love the city but it is crazy overwhelming with tourists at times. We actually enjoy staying in the suburbs when we visit and traveling into the city by tram now.

  2. The British tourists are the worst ones; just non stop coke and hookers with those fuckers, and they feel the need to advertise it constantly. They travel in packs too, big mobs of fat, drunk brits walking towards the red light district, loud and obnoxious at every turn. It’s fucking disgusting

  3. I’m pretty sure after Germany legalised weed there’s no need to do it anymore

  4. Damn right, Brits turning Dam into their own Walking Dead scene. Enough’s enough. Time for some balance

  5. I mean when you’ve spent decades promoting your city as a destination for hookers and drugs can you really be surprised when it attracts the worst kinds of degenerates? Maybe make those things only legal for citizens. Problem solved.

  6. Now do Airbnb’s. those things have ruined cities all over Europe.

  7. It’s almost like if you build it, they will come. Dutch aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed lol.

  8. Legit question as I’ve never been to Amsterdam, only flown through the airport a few times – is it really worse than a lot of other ‘touristy’ capitals like Rome or Paris?

Because I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a country wanting to discourage tourism before, so I can only assume it’s much, MUCH worse.

EDIT: To clarify, I’ve never heard of a country who has been very accommodating to tourists in the past suddenly wanting to discourage them.

  9. Just tax the hell out of them. Restricting new hotels makes existing hotels more profitable. With a tax, they could accomplish a similar goal of restricting tourists but with the money going to the government instead of hotel owners.

I’ve got nothing against the hotel owners, but the government doesn’t need to be doing them favors. If the issue is negative externalities caused by tourists, then the government can use that money to offset them or compensate the public in some other way. But essentially compensating hotels for it seems less ideal to me.

  10. I applaud cities like this and Barcelona for trying to keep things affordable for residents, but at what cost? A lot of businesses would not survive without tourists, but hey, we all like to avoid them so I guess try it? FWIW, I was in Amsterdam and other Dutch towns two weeks ago and did not find any of them overrun with tourist-types.

  11. And this is why I stay in Den Haag rather than Amsterdam.

  12. I have been there last year and really loved the city. However I wont be back.

The amount of tourists was just crazy. It felt like Disneyland or something. I remember that when I went to grab a few beers with friends at a nice pub there were a group of locals sitting at another table counting how many foreigners there were in „their“ pub. Made me feel really awful, as I totally get it. Kinda weird when you are the stranger in your own city.

  13. I don’t know why tourist flock to Amsterdam, there’s not much to see there compared to other great cities like Paris, Rome, and London.

  14. I was one of them, and I have no desire to go back. Amsterdam was the worst place we visited in Europe.

  15. As someone who visited for the first time last summer, yeah, was pretty crazy crowded and hotels were not cheap, ended up getting an Air Bnb on a houseboat on the canal.

  16. There are much more beautiful cities in Holland. Go there instead.

  17. When I visited Amsterdam back in the day – when it was basically the only place with legal cannabis – I found it pretty amusing to be the only person in the hostel who was not stoned out of their mind:

“Hey man what day is it?”

    *Thursday*

“Oh shit, I was supposed to be in Berlin today”

  18. Amsterdam is awesome. I’ve lived there for a summer working at the Anne Frank House and visited recently.

To say tourists are ruining it is silly. It’s like saying tourists in Times Square are ruining NYC. There’s a lot more to Amsterdam than just the Centruum

  19. I know it’s not always possible for people but they should explore vacationing in other seasons. I went to Amsterdam in November many years ago and it was great. Lots of donut stands.

  20. So many cities have such loser mentalities.

Like NY banning Airbnb instead of just building more  and Barcelona  taking a bus route off google maps rather than running more busses. Or Amsterdam banning new hotels.

It’s a bullshit scarcity mindset. And it’s why outside like 14 US states in the South/west the western world is stagnant
