A couple of things stand out.

Humza: “This will be a shock to many people, including myself.”

Yes, yes, I know – what else could he say? But PM's arrest is by no means a shock. Pull the other one, Humza.

Police Scotland said a full report would be sent to prosecutors at the Crown Office for consideration.

This is where it gets tricky. Bain, the Lord Advocate, is the head of the Crown Office. She is a Sturgeon nomination. She also attends Cabinet. A SNP cabinet.

No conflict of interest there, then…

  1. There’s a lot more he could have said about it but pretending not seeing something even Stevie Wonder could see coming isn’t it.

Even Sturgeon saying that it’s incredibly difficult is a million times better.

  2. Wonder what flash man Murrell and the second coming blew £600k on.

  3. Ultimately it continues to be a wait-and-see situation. There are already sizeable calls and recommendations that the Lord Advocate be only the Scottish Government’s chief legal adviser, not also head of prosecutions, so it’s known that they’re going to have to tread carefully on this.

If they don’t, then this ends up becoming that much worse for them, not only inflicting damage on the SNP but the Scottish Government itself.

  4. He must be the only one, or maybe he’s just shocked that it’s taken so long.

  5. I’m shocked! Shocked to find that g̶a̶m̶b̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ embezzlement is going on in here.

  6. I can’t help but think the political sensitivity of the Lord Advocate presiding over a Crown Office that declined to prosecute the husband of the FM that appointed her must have been factored into the decision to press charges.

If anything I’d assume that makes the Crown Office more pressured to take things forwards, they have to avoid the look of any impropriety.

  7. “It is standard practice that any case regarding politicians is dealt with by prosecutors without the involvement of the Lord Advocate or Solicitor General. All Scotland’s prosecutors act independently of political interference.”

  8. Haha. I don’t think he knew any more than the rest of us when Sturgeon stepped down, but I suspect he’s been expecting this development for several months now.

  9. Goodnes me. Snp are nearly on par with the British government with this scandal

  10. “Humza: “*This will be a shock to many people, including myself*.””

    He misspelled zealots.
