What can happen in some hospitals is sometimes, when they have more beds and more resources, that’s what kind of slows it down
I wonder where all the space for these beds went physically? Like hospitals seem fairly full at the moment, so it’s strange to think that they could fit almost twice as many patients in them if they had the staff.
Assume the big drop in 2009 is from closing/scaling back the likes of Roscommon and Nenagh in the wake of the recession.
Now plot this data against the total population of Ireland
Would be interesting to see hospital beds per capita
2008 was a poxy year wasn’t it?
It will jump up any time now with the children’s hospital coming on line…. Any time now….
Plot it per health budget, you’ll see we’re spending more than ever, and have shittier outcomes. Fuck sake. Cost cutting never cuts costs, just services.
The HSE is not about treating sick people, it’s an agency for employing people. That’s why no one was laid off or made redundant when the health boards were amalgamated, and there are so many administrators /clipboard holders compared to health care providers. The bulk of funding for the hse is salaries and pensions .

How did we lose circa 9k beds in 09?

I did a per capita comparison a few years ago
I was told that we were done with austerity.
