‘Chemical cocktail’: Sewage, slurry and plastic coursing through English rivers, say MPs | Climate News

  1. Plastic is everywhere and it’s not something anyone can control, until we find something that can breakdown all plastics. There are traces of microplastic everywhere, from Everest to the Mariana Trench to the amniotic fluid in pregnant women. We’re fucked when it comes to plastic pollution.

As for chemicals and slurry, we need to clean up both agriculture and hold water companies to account over dumping. Clean water is going to become a luxury at this rate and people expect wars to be fought over it in some areas within our lifetime. We will really regret not taking action now if we let this continue at the current rate.

  2. In my lifetime river’s have been fucked, recovered over decades so that fish returned that die of fright if they see a plastic bag…& here we go back to dead rivers…Great.

  3. Maybe someone in Scotland can confirm, but is this mostly an English problem? Scottish Water does not allow sewage into rivers/seas.

Selling off the utilities in the 80s – the laws should have prevented this crap!

  4. MP’s Vote to dump raw sewage into waters.

MP’s commission report to understand why there is raw sewage in the waters? 🤔

    Are these people mentally sound?

  5. Us: FIX THIS NOW FFS!

Politicians: Well let’s not be too hasty, some of these CEO’s are close friends and donors. We will certainly look into this by 2037.

  6. Blah blah rivers. What about the shareholders, foreign investment funds, etc that own the UK’s water companies?

Won’t someone PLEASE think about them, their feelings and their profits.

  7. The EA need more Grant in Aid money. Yeah sure DEFRA got a bonus 4.3 billion last year, but if you’re not allowed to spend that pot on incident response and enforcement there’s only so much good it’s going to do.
