  1. >German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has rejected Russian demands for an end to NATO’s eastward expansion. “The accession of further countries from Eastern Europe to NATO is currently not on the agenda at all. What is the point of the Russian demand? There can be no such guarantee,” the SPD politician told the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

    >Russia is demanding security guarantees and an end to the eastward expansion of the Western military alliance NATO, through which Russia sees itself threatened. For their part, the U.S. and its Western allies are demanding a withdrawal of Russian troops massed on the Ukrainian border.

    >”Security and cooperation in Europe, as meant by the Helsinki Final Act, can only exist if there is no notion of zones of influence where countries are not allowed to determine their own development,” Scholz added in the interview. On the current situation, he said, “We are in a very serious situation.” He said it could not be overlooked that one hundred thousand soldiers and a lot of military equipment had been assembled by Russia along the border with Ukraine.

    >Scholz spoke of a threat to peace and security in Europe. “That borders are not questioned is one of the achievements of the policy of détente and the understandings after 1990, just like the territorial integrity of countries. This means that we do not move national borders by force just because old books may have different borders on them. Law and rules must apply, not military might.”

    >__Merz calls for clear stance__

    >The chancellor reiterated “that it would have high costs for Russia if there is military aggression against Ukraine.” Asked what those might be, he said, “In the circle of allies, we agree on what possible measures look like. That’s good. We have to be able to act in case of an eventuality. And we will be.”

    > Wisdom, he said, dictates choosing measures that would have the greatest effect on the one who violates the principles we have established together. “At the same time, we have to consider what the consequences are for ourselves,” Scholz said. “No one should harbor the illusion that there is any measure that has no consequences for us.”

    >Meanwhile, newly elected CDU party leader Friedrich Merz called on the German government to take a clear stance on the Ukraine conflict. In an interview with RTL/ntv, Merz said, “I have called on Chancellor Scholz to take the initiative with others.” In doing so, the CDU politician stressed that European leaders must now decide on joint measures to show that they take the situation on the Ukrainian-Russian border seriously.

    >”Russia is endangering the territorial integrity of a European country. Therefore, the European Union must now find an answer,” Merz continued. Asked whether Angela Merkel should play a key role in the negotiations, Merz said, “You can talk to many about this situation. Because there are many who have intimate knowledge of the situation on the ground and Angela Merkel is without a doubt one of them.” But Merz stressed that in the end, Chancellor Scholz alone could make the decision on who the German government consults in the conflict: “He has to lead and he has to decide.”

  2. At this point NATO has nothing to lose by agreeing not to take Ukraine to the NATO. Since if NATO doesn’t agree, than Russia will attack Ukraine before NATO can accept Ukraine.

So he knows what he doesn’t want, and has no alternatives to offer.

Atleast he’s consistent on being hollow.

  4. what’s clear is that the US have no intention to abandon that much over ukraine

secondly, ukraine looks boxed in https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/MicrosoftTeams-image-2-1024×777.png

they even forgot some permanent troops in transdniestria along the moldovan border

thirdly, why were they even pursueing a case against poroshenko ? It looks ridiculous AF; like they don’t have any better to go after ? what are those ridiculous charges of separatism, is this a political firefight ? if it wasn’t for him, the country wouldn’t even exist already. accusing him of being “pro dnr” is utter big-lie tiers nonsense

if this is another of those far right made up cases from zelenski’s allies to kidnap political rivals, they couldn’t possibly choose a worse time (at least if they want their country to survive, lol). They should have him consulting on affairs and build a war room by now, not attack him

edit oh and regarding the public statement by zelensky that western countries are “overblowing things”, does he knows there’s thousands of tanks and about 200K russians waiting to go in his country ? if he tries joigning nato now, they’ll attack automatically. There’s speculation that the us wargamed they are willing to loose him and ukraine (by letting it fight it out; they expect he’ll loose) if it causes 15% (20%?) casualty rates on the attacking russian troops, and to gather data on the efficacy of their mass produced anti tank infantry weapons (javelin, nlaw etc) on russian attackers. hello cynism

also sorry to say but is he dumb going out in public etc by now instead of being whisked in some undisclosed locations ? if he gets killed by a random (intelligence services are perfectly willing to send quasi-suicidal attackers for compensation to relatives, does he know that ?)…

    dude, you’re gonna get killed : https://www.aa.com.tr/fr/monde/ukraine-le-pr%C3%A9sident-zelensky-inaugure-le-plus-grand-pont-du-pays-construit-par-une-entreprise-turque/2482755

no i don’t have any particular info, but this is like objective 1 of a war if you can get away with it. Removing the political power.

(edit yes the source is turkish prop, but gotta keep an eye on it. Tho the visit is likely true since backed by a picture.)

  5. Russia has a GDP 10 times smaller than the EU and 3 times fewer people (Russia 144 million vs EU 447 million + 40 million if counts Ukraine).

Times have changed. Russia is no longer a superpower and if the EU wants, they can destroy it. Even without the help of the USA.

  6. NATO should just make a pro-gamer move and invite Russia to join NATO. Maybe that’s what it’s all about.
