American shells from Iran, means that they were most likely manufactured in the 1980s or earlier. I don’t think the US has delivered any arms to Iran after the Iran-Contra affair.
It is really bad, that Russia is receiving artillery ammunition from Iran. Iran is producing high quality regular ammunition, like 155 mm shells (NATO size) and Soviet type 122 mm and 130 mm artillery shells and Soviet and western 120 mm mortar shells. They regular do not produce 152 mm as only few 152 artillery pieces are available in the Iranian army, they have 155 mm. The production quality of their ammunition is far better than for comparable countries (like Pakistan and far better than North Korea) and even comparable or better than Russia or China.
