One of the reasons could be just the scale of operations, if theres way more Subway stores in UK they can get way better deals with suppliers.
Poland is an expensive country. At least for certain things. I think it’s because Poles pay anyway.
Few examples from my own observations:
Clothing – same pieces in Zara in Ireland were cheaper there than in Zara in Poland.
Food&Drink at festivals and sport events – you can get two beers at the Bundesliga game for the price of one beer at Ekstraklasa game.
Mulled wine at the Christmas market in Krakow was 6 euro – in Germany 3-4,50 depending on the city.
Baby care products – those can be more than twice the price in Poland than in Germany. Same shops same products.
Every time I visit Poland I stock up on diapers and other stuff in German Rossmann even though I could easily buy them in Rossmann in Poland.
Food is awfully expensive in Poland because of shit managing by the previous government. Expenses on heating/electricity and minimal wages sky rocketed and cherry on top was inflation. And well, now it is what it is.
Fast food in general is mostly a privilage here
Check how much a new car cost in Germany and in Poland…
Everything may be more expensive here, but we earn less.
Poland dogs more fatty
things are more expensive due to having to match western eu pricing. that’s really it. and VAT is 23%
And they’re better too, have more ingredients in basic sandwiches. Bacon is extra in poland while in UK you get it with your chicken sandwich by default.
Subway is not a place I go to in Poland.
In all cases it’s “zestaw” which mean a meal (French fries + refreshing) , price 37 zl ~ 7.4 £, on the first screenshot a meal starts from 8.09£.
Pretty sure it’s because In UK and US fast food chains advertise themselves as cheap low quality food that you eat when you don’t have time to make food for yourself, meanwhile everywhere else they branded themselves as fast but luxury food form when you wanna eat out with friends. That’s why there are differences In both quality and price
Why is the iPhone cheaper literally everywhere else than in Poland?
Why is coffee cheaper in the UK than in Poland?
Probably for the same reason that a hamburger in McDonald’s in USA is cheaper than a hamburger in McDonald’s in Poland
In short; Meat exports and electricity bills.
Just like with the MC Donald potatoes for fries; Subway uses a specific processed meat, which isn’t processed in Poland, but (I think) in Germany and the Czech Republic. Thus the costs of fuel for the trucks with refrigiator containers eat at the price.
Ironically there’s a high chance the meat came from Poland since we export most of our raw produce to those countries but there’s no processing plant owned by Subway in the country. ;]
Another thing is the ramping electricity prices due to our…, *eastern troubles*, and those display refrigerators work 24/7 while eating monstrous amounts of power.
But I have a better question; *Why* would you want to eat at Subway in Poland? It’s by far the worst option.
Seriously, **what kind of degenerate eats at Subway in Poland?**
Poland is very expensive.
Going to a restaurant or McDonald’s and spending money on a meal for 3 people, is an equivalent of a week’s worth of groceries.
A lot of stores have closed recently in my region because of the high cost of doing business.

Life lesson. Don’t go to subway.
Because you have metro they have subway
And McDonald’s cheaper in Finland.
UK vs EU food standards? The UK has lower (edit: /another) standards than the EU – maybe that’s why
