A fake nun who a court banned from attending services at a Belfast monastery has been locked up in Hydebank Women’s Prison.
Rachel Mulcahy is charged with two counts of obstructing traffic in a public place by lying on the road at Glengall Street and Chichester Street on dates in February of this year.
The 45-year-old’s case was mentioned briefly at Laganside Magistrates Court last week. Mulcahy — who quit the Catholic Church after the banning order and reinvented herself as religious campaigner ‘Anna Christian’ — appeared via video-link from Hydebank.
The appearance has eased fears about her wellbeing, with many of her TikTok and Instagram followers expressing concerns that she has not been seen for some time.
Prior to her arrest Mulcahy was most recently recorded standing at a roadside in east Belfast singing religious songs and waving a huge Israeli flag. She has thousands of social media followers and regularly posts videos of her stunts which include blocking roads.

The application by Father Peter Burns was granted by the judge due to Mulcahy’s “zeal and fervour” when she randomly appeared during services.
Afterwards she told Sunday Life that she “cannot have anything further to do with Roman Catholicism” following the ban.
She said: “I cannot support an organisation that lies, mistreats and abuses men, women and children who enter its doors. I cannot support an organisation that consistently defies God’s word in his holy scriptures, the Bible. I therefore resign completely and fully from Roman Catholicism and now look to the Bible and Bible alone.”

  1. The fact she’s being held in a prison and not a secure mental health hospital seems to confirm she’s fully aware of her behaviour and actions, it’s been an act the whole time not mental health issues.
