Meaningful Paddy’s day weekend
Ah here. What about the retail staff? I’m not one of them so wouldn’t benefit before anyone says. But they also dug us way out and were/are essential. I genuinely don’t think they got enough recognition.
Edit: clearly people can’t thank more than one person/cohort at a time. Cool.
Good on Brigid doing the things she did so we could have another back holiday.
More money and extra holidays for all, how is r/ireland going to try and swing this like it’s a bad thing now!

Union responses will be interesting
Teachers about to go on strike
Hurrah!!! I can buy a big slab of afforable cans now to get me through a 4 day weekend…….oh….wait
Honestly, I’m really pleased to see this, tax free too! (I’m not a healthcare worker, just recognise the absolute shitshow they’ve had to deal with)
Nice long weekend!
More fucking money my taxes have to pay that I get nothing from. Do I get 1K tax free?
Will students be included anyone know?
Is this the taste of carrot? It’s been so long I’m not sure I remember anymore.
If they’re more getting paid can I get refund on all the claps I gave them?
Any chance of an advance on that public holiday now pls
Will people like cleaners and porters get it too?
Don’t agree with this at all.
I’m in retail and would obviously love some kind of bonus like this but anyone who says healthcare workers should not get a bonus after going through the last 2 years of shit is simply a bastard.
They deserve it.
other people in other sectors yes also deserve something but not everyone gets what they deserve unfortunately.
Lovely stuff that’ll do nicely.
I worked in a nursing home at the time I’m gone now over a year wonder will I get anything
Well deserved.
I hope they don’t tax it on them!
They deserve but I’m wondering where the money is coming from
Does this payment extend to the cleaners etc who worked in a healthcare setting throughout COVID??
Work in a private hospital that took a shit tonne from the HSE. I’ll get absolutely zero
One4All vouchers for Healthcare workers.
Digital Versions too so they can’t spend more than 50e in a single transaction.
It’s going to be a very bumpy ride..
Two days off then Six Nations Super Saturday? What a world we live in.
Lots of the admin staff really do deserve it…….
It’d be great to see it go to the frontline staff. Not sure how they can give it tax free when private employers can’t
I doubt many would begrudge the €1000 for the healthcare staff, although I can see this going bad as in ending up paying to the entire HSE staff like 100,000 employees and then the gardai, teachers , bus & rail looking for theirs.
Sure the money tree is just going to keep growing and growing, what can go wrong, as long as people know it still has to be paid back or inflated away.
Wait until we see next years budget, it’ll include tax hikes that’ll make this €1000 payment seem like a loan.
I’m pogging rn
Tacky St Brigids merch appearing in Dublin shops near you!
Does the €1000 payment go to HSE admin staff?
I’m absolutely all for the recognition of the hard work from the Frontline staff and a 1000 bonus (tax free ) is lovely
however for the calls that it should be more or given to other type of workers we need to bear in mind at the end of the day the government isnt really paying this at all
And for the boring stuff ….
it’s us the other taxpayers so we need to bear this in mind because at the end of the day it’s everyone else(us) who essentially is making the contribution via our taxes collected in our budget management
Personally if I had to pay an extra 50 quid in tax in a wage packet or something I wouldn’t be put out but alot of people are struggling as it is with the increase cost of living
But fair play for the government (for once) on actually commiting to it and not being just a sound board and saying it for election votes etc
I’m probably be down voted but when I hear calls now like all others eg (carers and more) or increase the 1k and these type of calls, the line has to be drawn somewhere
And those here on Reddit who work on the front line in healthcare
Thank you !
Excellent news but some kunts will still moan
