Fire breaks out at Copenhagen’s historic stock exchange, spire collapses • FRANCE 24 English

a massive fire tore through one of the
most famous landmarks in Copenhagen
today it broke out at the 17th century
Stock Exchange Building there in the
Danish capital and although the blaze
was quickly brought under control it was
too late to save the building’s Spire
which broke in half and then went
crashing to the ground well the cause of
that fire is not yet clear for 24’s
Emerald Maxwell has the story for
us a landmark of Copenhagen engulfed in
flames after a fire broke out Tuesday
Morning in the Old Stock Exchange
Building in the Danish Capital the
iconic 54 M High spy collapsed in the
blaze crashing into the street below the
buron building as shocked Dan’s watched
it’s just a building but it means so
much to us copenhageners and and every
day even my my parents who are from the
other part of Denmark has a little
miniature figure of person uh in the
living room some passes by leapt into
action helping to save what they could
of the works of art inside the historic
building I saw that uh some people maybe
some also from the national museum was
uh salvaging some of our most uh
valuable paintings these paintings are
very big and heavy so uh I quickly went
and and offered my help this is the
buron building a few years ago built at
the start of the 17th century it had
been undergoing renovation when the fire
broke out the sort of front part of the
building that is mostly destroyed and
the sort of back part of the building
that is perhaps slightly less damaged
but it seems clear that it that the
damages are very very severe yeah it’s
absolutely horrible it’s part of the
story of our city a story that we can’t
just leave in the sea of flames and
that’s why we’ll do everything we can to
rebuild
this police said it was still too early
to say what caused the fire and that
they would be able to enter the building
in a few
days now it’s
