someone who was very much in control of
his brief he never gave the impression
to either myself or indeed the board In
fairness of being anything other than in
control of that brief

The Royal Mail’s former chief executive has cast doubt on an ex-Post Office boss’s claim that he did not know the organisation brought #prosecutions against its own staff.

This morning Alan Cook, who was managing director of the Post Office from 2006 to 2010, told the Horizon inquiry he had not heard anything “sufficiently categoric” to suggest that the Post Office was the sole party involved in choosing to prosecute sub-postmasters until 2009.

Yet Mr Crozier, who was chief executive of Royal Mail Group from 2003 to 2010, told the inquiry he would find this “surprising”.

  4. This Inquiry is such a waste of time and money. All the Directors, CEO's, etc, are sounding Guilty! Saying, 'I didn't know … ', or, 'I wasn't aware…. ', just won't wash. They should all be charged and tried in a Criminal Court, just like the innocent people they sent to Prison! It's a shambles!

  10. Chief cheese, MD, on many hundreds of £K, the most important legal thing going on in the organisation, "Nah, Dunno anyfing bout that, guv". Totally incompetent? Where was his office: in the broom cupboard? Pull the other one.

  12. They both claim to be ignorant of the PO prosecutions. Yet Crozier criticises the other guy! Great men to lead a large company!

  13. I can see this whole thing ending in civil disobedience if justice isn't served on the people who are obviously lying and evading… and "not recalling." There's something for PM Starmer to consider.

  16. Get to a certain level in management,/society and join the right society/club, and there is no accountability for your actions.Whatever they are.

  23. Several governments empowered the Post Office, as they kept to an "arms length" leaving it to its own devices. Government intervention only comes when it was forced into action, and now we are seeing how bad the Post Office has been for decades under total mismanagement.

  30. The Top brass are all running for cover denying they knew nothing about the prosecutions.
    Having worked in a Board environment these issues would be well known with Senior management updating their Board regularly. For example
    Prosecution Completed
    Prosecutions Pending
    Value of Alleged loss
    Investigations current
    Investigations Pending
    Custodial Sentences obtained.
    They've been presiding over this for years but nobody at Board level knew.
    Absolutely lying through their corporate teeth.
    Time for these people to face justice.

  32. All these PO executives will lie through there teeth in this inquiry & will be fully briefed & prepped by the lawyers before giving any so called evidence at the inquiry…..

Several suicides, prison time, lives ruined; and shamed = These poor innocent Sub post masters, while Post office executives: Forget the way they look they are same as knife wielding thugs all of them. Huge salaries performance incentive huge bonuses ,(Motive)No wonder happily say they were incompetent or I can't recollect .

  39. Once the knowlege of prosecutions was apparent how long was it before:-
    # A request was made for a graph of the number cases monthly/ quarterly referred to the Courts of Horizon cases. 
    # This to be commenced from 5 years before introduction of Horizon to date.
