  6. Difference here is that Putin is nowhere NEAR the manager that the USSR was…and Ukraine is way better at seeking partnerships than Vietnam was. Putin needs to be reminded that he s resorting to women and making deals in Africa for soldiers…where Ukraine is still not fully utilizing their own population.

  8. Vietnam war resulted in 60.000 American deaths in an 8 year long period, Ukraine Russia war resulted in 0 American deaths with at least 50.000 Russian dead in the span of 2.5 years. I don’t see the connection with Vietnam here unless Russia is the parallel to the USA in this scenario.

  15. The big problems the US had in Vietnam were:

    * much of the population was against them and they had no way to tell who was with them and who wasn’t;
    * the jungle provided excellent cover that neutralised their technological advantages; and
    * the allied government was corrupt and incompetent.

    Can’t see Ukraine ticking any of those boxes.

  21. The humiliation where Vietnam is today one of the friendliest nations towards the US and engaging in increasingly close security cooperation with them? That kind of humiliation?

  22. Vietnam ended up as a US ally and delt with all the regional communist powers (including China) despite how the war ended. If Ukraine ends up like Vietnam did for America, Ukraine will join NATO, liberate Belarus, and give Russia a black eye. I’m cool with that.

  30. Russias ridiculous pronouncements like this are not meant to persuade anyone in the Western world. They are trying to create a permission structure for people in the middle (not strongly supporting or opposing) to support or at least not oppose Russia. They want it to appear that the cause of the conflict is debatable and that there are other factors. If they can muddy the water just enough, most people become apathetic, and in effect, they get their diplomatic win.

    They are conducting genocide and other terrible crimes, and we need to repeat these facts over and over again.

    You are playing into their objectives by debating the points of their arguments. They want it to look like a debate.

    We need to respond by clearly stating the crimes that Russia is committing. Russia is committing genocide.

  35. I agree with Russia in the role of the USA and Ukraine in the role of Vietnam. It has already resulted in humiliation and embarrassment for russia. They went from being considered a super power to an incompetent has-been with delusions of grandeur.

Only 9 billion going to Ukraine as a loan, the rest of the 51 billions that is going to the war is going to the US military complex to make weapons to send to Ukraine and update the US Military equipment. So a foreign aid that boosts the American Economy. There is no Vietnam here Segey Lavrov.
