  1. It’s such a scam. You have to pay full price for a house as you would leasehold, then pay service fees and ground rent. And when you’ve paid it off, it’s not truly, well yours.

  2. So basically, in 20 years time, they’ll just change the rules again so you have to keep paying. It’s a bit like HS2’s Northern Leg, and Levelling up – never going to happen. Nothing mroe than short-term PR desdigned to win a few votes.

Ending leasehold was NEVER going to happen under the tories, just like HS2 North and levelling up.

  3. I don’t understand why they make such a big fuss about ground rents but mostly seem to ignore managing charges, which are the real biggie. Leaseholders should have the right to appoint and replace manafing agents. In theory, freeholders should profit only from the ground rent, not from overcharging leaseholders by appointing sister companies as managing agents at inflated prices, or by sharing the insurance broker commissions.

  4. Can someone explain why people signed these contracts in the first place? Was it shoddy legal advice, or did they just not understand what they were signing?

  5. Quite a few tools on this thread. Poor people are to blame for the choices they made as a result of being poor. Keep voting tory guys!

  6. I just want to know what labour will do about this once they’re finally in power

  7. Great news for anyone with doubling terms running into issues with exceeding the £250 limit of being defined as an AST, if I’m understanding the article correctly

  8. If most other industries did this it would be outlawed

  9. What a surprise, another failed promise to fuck over the poorest in society

  10. Pathetic cowards. This government has no interest in governing.
