I’ve never seen anyone make their own learner badge before.

  1. Hahah I’m from Greece and it’s quite common for us to use our own made leaner badges. It’s also common to keep them for years

  2. Maybe they lost that one like it flew off and had to improvise

  3. That in no way meets the regulations and is 100% illegal.

You havn’t seen anyone make their own before because of how specific they have to be

  4. They refuse to bow to Big Learner Corp. and their ridiculous £2.49 charges

  5. I used to wince every time I walked past a car down my road who had attached L plates to the back of their Merc A Class with gaffa tape.

Presumably their kid has now either passed or given up, as it’s now gone, along with half the clear coat on their boot.

  6. Mad, i get there is a cost of living crisis at the moment but if you can’t afford £2.99 for a set of these should you really be considering driving? What happens when they get a flat? stick some gaffer tape over it and hope for the best.

  7. What happens if the police stop them for this?

My rear L plate fell off my motorbike last week and I’m wondering what’s the worst case scenario?

(I ordered a new one from Amazon, it arrived today. It’s being fitted before I go home.)

  8. I’ve seen this happen quite a few times.

I’m guessing some people are too tight to spend a couple of quid at Halfords.

  9. Back when I was a learner I made my own plates as I got insurance on a Sunday and wanted to take my car out, so googled the dimensions required and printed off my own.

Those sellotape marks never did come off the car.

  10. Quite a common issue with private vehicles being brought for a driving test where incorrect L plates are used.

I’ve seen them on upside down. On the roof. Propped up in the window. On the passenger doors.

Source : I’m an examiner for car tests.

  11. I 3d printed some once, but I made it according to the actual official specifications.

  12. You just know it has 4 different brand Chinese tyres with 1.1mm tread left all across

  13. I did, once, but I’d been out for a drive with my mum, parked the car at the beach and realised that both of my magnetic ones had been stolen when we got back. I can’t remember why she just wouldn’t drive back (it was at least 17 years ago!) but she wouldn’t, so I had to get creative.

We couldn’t go and buy any because it was about 7pm on a bank holiday.

  14. Already committing driving offences and they haven’t even passed yet. I’ve seen it all now

  15. Tried to donate my old ones to charity shop, they didnt want them. A woman in the queue behind me over heard and said

“I’ll buy them off you” offered me 2 quid for all 4 and the woman behind the till suddenly wanted them.
Told her to shove it and just gave them to the woman no charge.

Maybe if charity shops took these kinds of useful for a limited time items they’d have more custom and maybe even people briging them back when they are done so they are just re selling the same ones. We probably wouldnt have people skimping on the like this melon then.

  16. I saw a printed-out one last week. They had gone to the trouble of using self-adhesive paper, too.

    It was faded and peeling!
