Example of fdj yesterday who instead of giving a through ball to Lamine who was free to run in space. Carried the ball to Christensen who was 1 meter of him. the difference between a deep lying playmaker Kroos and a build up player like frenkie.

  1. Before anyone says this can happen and he just didnt see him. Well fdj does this more than 1 time. He always looks down carrying it to another teammate who is right besides him

    In this picture
Camavinga was caught high on the field. Lamine basically had a free run. cama would never catch him.

If someone can find the clip it would be better to show because I dont think those pictures do justice on how big of a chance we could have created if Frenkie just makes those passes more often

And he does this so many times. He is obsessed with the easy route. Almost never takes risk and loves to carry the ball instead of making such pass

  2. Classic FdJ,  I don’t understand why he’s seen as an untouchable on the team

  3. “The ball can move faster than any player” should be nailed to his locker.

For me, that’s the biggest problem with De Jong. It’s always the long dribble and then the turn to pass sideways or back. Dribbling should be used a secondary tool and not the first option for a Barca midfielder.

His passing is extremely limited for a supposed top midfielder. He also lacks the discipline and positional wherewithal to effectively function against elite sides.

The mf just seems more fluid without him.

  4. Another example for him just being a luxury type player for this team, he just doesn’t fit , he’s one of my favorite players, but the reality he just doesn’t work in this team.

  5. Feel like he has all the tools but whether it be coaching or his own mentality or just the players around him not giving him confidence, he just hasn’t taken that next step.

Coaches should be drilling into him about being an alpha on the pitch and making his mark. Just keeping the ball moving is not enough for a talented fellow like him. I can’t remember the last time I saw him driving into the opponent penalty box or taking a good shot. If 35 year old gundogan and youngsters like Fermin can do it, why not him?

I really don’t know if the answer is selling him, especially at the lowest point of his career here. He seems like one of those guys who will thrive as soon he leaves barca. So the question is, can Xavi or whoever coaches next season get him to be one of the top players in the world?

  6. To be quite frank (pun not intended), if he wasn’t as conventionally attractive, he would have been gone a long time ago. He’s not that good of a player.

The attractiveness bias is a thing in every field, football included.

  7. I like Frenkie, I think that a midfielder that can receive the ball and dribble past players to create a different scenario is super valuable. People are starting to hate on him because without Busquets and now with Christensen (and Pedri mostly injured), we NEED a long range passer in the midfield. As soon as Cubarsi stepped into the team, his long balls became one of our biggest assets.
His flaws are being exposed more than ever because having Gundogan, we basically can see the type of player he should be, but falls short in many aspects (goal scoring threat mainly).
With Gavi coming back, if we can get a DM this window I won’t mind selling him, it will just be annoying when we are in the market for someone like him once Gundogan declines.

  8. Yeah just hit a casual 40 yard pass into space against the best transition team in the world. It’s easy!

  9. Do you watch any games regularly or just tune in for the Classico? That same non-pass happens 20 times a game in any singular game you watch.
