1. “The Home Office sneaked out the damning data as the PM was holding yet another Downing Street press conference on his plan to deport migrants to Rwanda.

   At one point he even boasted about how the number of small boat crossings had fallen in 2023 compared to the year before.

   He said: “When people say ‘can people have confidence and trust’ I’ll just point you to what we’ve already achieved.

   “Last year, for the first time, the number of small boat crossings were down by 36%.”

   But this morning’s Home Office publication proved that any progress Sunak made previously has now gone into reverse.

   It showed that so far this year, there have been 6,265 small boat arrivals to the UK, compared to 5,049 during the same period in 2023 – an increase of 24%.”

   Instead of reinvesting in the Home office and reopening the routes that were closed creating the “small boat crisis” they chose to spunk billions on barges and Rwanda… how do people vote for this feckless bunch?

   > * Afghan nationals make up 19% of all arrivals so far this year, which is broadly similar to the proportion of arrivals in the same period last year (22% – 1,098)
   > * there were 3,783 arrivals of all other nationalities compared to 3,826 in the same period last year, which is a decrease of 1%
   > * in the 12 months to 21 April 2024 there were 30,653 small boat arrivals compared to 45,755 in the calendar year 2022, a decrease of 33%
   > * in the 12 months to 21 April 2024 there were 2,515 Vietnamese arrivals; in the preceding 12-month period there were 509, which represents an almost five-fold increase year-on-year in Vietnamese arrivals
   > * Afghan arrivals made up 19% (5,872) of all arrivals in the 12 months to 21 April 2024, which is the same as the proportion of all arrivals in the preceding 12-month period (19% – 8,681)
   > * of the remaining nationalities there were 22,266 arrivals on small boats in the 12 months to 21 April 2024
