It’s just fueling more illegal tobacco, wish I could smoke it, I’d save a fortune. I get offered it every single day.
Cigarette costs PLUS cost of living crisis I suspect
Literally everyone i know buys illegal ones. Even the corner shop has started under the counter dodgy ones.
Cheaper to take a short flight to Europe, hang out for a day, and bring some back, even within the limit if you’re a good boy/girl. Sorry Greta, has to be done…
Edit:
Prices for everything motivate not having those things
All it’s lead me to is buying £5 pouches off some Bulgarian gangsters.
And how much of the cost is actually tax? I ask my grandparents who travel a fucking lot for duty free baccy. I think the cheapest last year was 5 x 50g for £26 from Portugal i think. Last time i was in Europe it was about 8/9 euro’s for a 50g pouch. It’s never been that cheap here unless its fake.
I hate tobacco. I hate smoking. But I love smoking weed. I don’t want to use tobacco to do this but I don’t know any other way. It’s too expensive to make gummies or oils out of the weed I buy
More young people are addicted to disposable vapes. Some buy super cheap ones that are full of harmful chemicals worse than cigarettes
Plus you can vape inside meaning they chuff away more of them
Don’t see this as a win at all
It’s doing the same thing for me with food, heating, transportation and later this year, rent!
I would really like some definitive analysis on the whole smokers cost the NHS more vs. smokers die young and contribute lots to NI which they never use in old age thing
not that it’s the only axis on which policy ought to turn – there’s second, third hand smoke stuff, moral arguments etc.
but even just the economics of it feel unclear to me as a medium-interested person
£17 for £50g of Amber Leaf under the counter around my ends. They also sell 50g of ‘Amber Leaf’ for £7 if you want to buy something dodgy.
I’ve smoked this (£17) stuff for years, it’s literally just brought over from eastern European countries, I’ve never had any problems smoking it. (I don’t want a lecture on how smoking is bad for your health in general)
For anybody unsure, the biggest tell for fake tobacco is the brail on the serial number of the pouch. The fake ones are just printed, the real ones actually have texture.
Obviously fake ones are out there, but selling imported tobacco from eastern Europe at £17 a pouch is still very lucrative don’t believe the scare mongering.
I’m a filthy casual smoker and gawk at the price of ciggies, a pack of 20 will last me a month or longer for the 2 or 3 pub nights I light up. No idea how anyone can afford to smoke 20 a day!
All the local newsagents just sell cheaper ones from trips abroad (or are fake).
A bigger concern is how many youngsters are vaping, certainly feels like there’s more than there ever was smoking ciggies.
