PM wants to tackle ‘sick note culture’

the Prime Minister says he will reform
the disability benefit system to tackle
what he describes as a sick note culture
proposed changes include replacing cash
payments to those suffering from mental
health conditions with treatment and
shifting responsibility for issuing fit
for work notes away from GPS to other
work and health professionals a
staggering
94% of those signed off sick were simply
written off as not fit for work well
that’s not right and it was never the
intention we don’t just need to change
the sick note we need to change the sick
note culture so that the default becomes
what work you can do not what you can’t

Rishi Sunak says he will reform ‘sick note culture’ with reform to the disability benefits system.

  1. Yes they should be getting help however that should be done before they need to be signed off! He will end up putting a system in place where places like the current assessment centre seem if your too sick to work instead of a qualified gp
When people get to this point it’s for a reason and some people just can’t work again. You want to make people work till they’re dead and to top it off even if they’re sick you expect them to work like a sick work horse until they break completely. Another way of attacking the poor and placing the onus on them and not on those who can afford the burden and could help lighten the load

  2. Times UK headline 10/04/24: sickness claims rise by a third in Tory heartlands. Good luck with that policy.
    Continuation of their utter mismanagement.
    They let it rip.

  3. Sick to death of his government, sick to death of corruption, sick to death of the lies, sick to death of cuts, sick to death of tax rises, sick to death of austerity, sick to death of brexit, sick to death of NHS and cost of living crisis…

  4. Ive mental helath issues since i was a child. And suffer from extreme depression. To the point of sueside, he clearly would have me work a minimum wage gob that doesn't cover my bills and have me hang myself out of feeling traped and stuck.

It was my teachers and parents yhat constantly bombarded me with the fact i wasnt normal and was sent to a communication Disorder Unit school. And now they will try to force me to work and there isnt any real support of us. His idea of suport is forcing you to go to jobcentre or have you benefits stoped. How

  5. Rishi, the patronising billionaire, has no idea how hard most in our country are finding things. He's completely out of touch with reality.

  6. Replacing cash payments with treatment? People are definitely going to get better than they currently are with even less resources than they currently have! Not.

A depressed person having no income isn't going to become less depressed, an anxious person having no income isn't going to become less anxious. Same for other mental health conditions. This is a recipe for disaster.

Also, this sounds dangerously close to compulsory medical treatment.

Going over the heads of GPs because they've refused to do what he wants is quite something.

Watching the news these days is concerning stuff.

  7. More cuts for the some of the most vulnerable… we've already had comments about targeting the homeless, but this is what the Tories are all about particularly when they're struggling….there's always a scapegoat that can't fight back. The Tories are all about fear, snobbery and greed.

  8. I’m an American, and I can tell this is conservative BS. I’ve often joked about leaving this country, but I’m not sure where it’s better!

  9. The poor pay more so the rich can avoid more..
It's a rigged system, it only works the poor, we opt out of it at a record rate now!

  10. Is it right for your wife dealing with Russian?its ik for you and your friends to not pay taxes and using save hevan area
Is it ok for your friend to steal millions is it ok to give Ukraine billions for a war we created is it ok for our hard working people to use food banks

  11. Everything he says is prepared for him, he has no thoughts of his own, I hate his voice, stooge PM paid to post by his dad, father in law and Modi

  12. * BOB SEELY MP
It appears Bob Seely is implying that individuals who are sick and disabled cannot spell and can only
    communicate using slang.
His statement can be seen as prejudiced, stigmatised, discriminatory, ableist, and stereotyping.

    Bob Seely MP & @IoWBobSeely
Really welcome announcement on sick note culture. Now let's make it happen.
It ain't caring to write people off. It ain't fare on the taxpayer either.*

  13. I was turned down for sickness benefits and subsequently all disability benefits because osteoarthritis and osteoporosis aren't classed as disabilities. Try telling my body that and all the doctors and health professionals I have seen over the past 9 years.

  14. If he said we are going to change the work environment so everybody has a place in it AND THEN created legislation to make sure that happens it would be great. But he won't do that at all. He will simply make sure more people are punished.

  15. They always go after the sick and disabled when they're looking to save money how about taking a pay cut and scrapping expenses and the subsidised bar at Westminster

  16. His government shouldn’t have encouraged people to undergo a medical procedure that never completed satisfactory clinical trials then. The data coming out of countries that actually still believe in impartial, non-politicised science (e.g. Japan) is an absolute scandal.

  17. you have to overwork a hard job on low wages, with high food prices and when you sick this is what he wants to do to you. what a bad man

  18. In the U.S. here, I don't understand how the torries keep getting elected.
The U.S., definitely has no compassion for the I'll and poor. I always thought the U.K. was a more humane society.

  19. "other work and health 'professionals'" – so some tory voting bloke from capita who's job it is to reject every claim then….

  20. All i can say is he should try living on the money normal people get the mans a an unelectable wanker yes you heard a wanker

  21. This is the person who wasted hundreds of millions on the Rwanda deal, who between him and his wife has probably paid the same amount of tax as the average earning 28k a year working despite having hundreds of millions! To rant it’s not hard to connect the immigrants coming over to the uk are being given the boats in France so they are our problem! Considering the next election is looking doubtful for him I’d be sucking up to the voters in the poorer areas not make it worse!
