Very odd to see EU countries pressuring Greece, which is one of the few countries in NATO that actually is facing a threat from Turkey. Though it gets weird politically since both are allied with the USA. It’s not like it’s realistic that turkey would attack or provoke Greece but the more of an advantage that turkey has over Greece the more it becomes possible. Since typically any flareups are going to be over disputed islands air defense would actually play a critical role in that situation. Though honestly it’s probably very helpful that they are going to be getting F35 and turkeys is going to be stuck with F-16’s makes it a lot safer potentially with a patriot system at least until they can get a replacement
Don’t get security assurances. Ukraine had those when they surrendered the nuclear weapons USSR left behind. Get legally binding treaties.
If turkey wasn’t in nato (id be happy to have them as an ally dont get me wrong but I will always support greece, and turkish leader position on greece has me worried) then greece could rely on the nato article. Therefore, then I would support this. But as they are both in Nato plus the amount going on, globally, I don’t see a security guarantee being worth what it used to be.
Other European nations need to give their patriots, they either only border other EU countries. Why can’t they give more.
The Greek people shouldn’t be asked to give so much.
