Further up the pitch, our midfielders need to be creative powerhouses with an eye for goals and assists, he doesn’t do that at all either. The issue for us is that, as good as a player he is, he doesn’t fit our style of play and how we want to progress the ball, and so we should recoup the fee and reinvest the money

As elite as Frenkie is, a midfield can’t be carried by a single player. He neither has a dependable DM behind him, nor a Pedri who starts regularly. The next manager/Xavi should either try to bring a solid DM, or train either of Gundo or Frenkie to change their game like Calhanoglu.

Passing accuracy is also a shit metric for most risk-averse players. Kroos being that high just means he’s that good. Same can’t be said about FDJ. Let’s also not forget in 21/22 him and Busquets were the 2 best midfield dribblers by quantity and success percentage. Says a lot…it’s not like he’s Iniesta beating men in tight spaces. He carries the ball after inviting pressure (good) then runs into space but does so in place of actually playing the ball instead of doing it because it’s meaningful. As a result he goes too far and slows down the play a lot.
Need more forward movement from him. With his class I feel he plays it safe mostly.

Frenkie was most effective this season alongside Romeu, a proper DM, when he was in-form at the beginning of the season. With the lack of a proper DM and the long-term injury of Gavi who took on the bulk of defensive work in the midfield, we have minimized Frenkie’s attributes. Prioritize a DM signing this summer, all this reactionary hoopla around Frenkie will subside.
