US Senate votes overwhelmingly to advance Ukraine, Israel aid legislation

    Edit: Oops! Technically this is the vote for advancing the bill and they still have to vote one more time. However this result means that that vote is a sure thing.

  4. Are the planes loaded yet? One more vote (later this afternoon?) and one signature (this evening?), then it’s wheels up.

  5. Don’t tie one hand behind their backs. Ukraine has superb instincts and guts rare in our world. Let them crush Russia.

  6. Excellent news. Ukraine and Israel are both fighting for democracy against the Russia-Iran Axis and they both need our support to win that fight.

  8. 19 Senators voted no in the Roll Call vote of which 17 were Republican. They each will get 1 hr to pontificate, and likely a few of the Yes senators will speak as well, although I would have to think much more briefly. So the final vote is more likely to occur sometime on Wed, and be signed into law very shortly thereafter.

    Which implies to me that early Thursday morning Ukraine time it is going to be receiving about 1 billion USD of weapons and munitions. As we now know, America has been busy prepositioning for delivery and this effort intensified once the House approved the legislation.

    The moment the Senate final vote is “yes” I suspect Ukraine will allow much of its reserve munitions to be released to the front line. So by Friday/the weekend I expect some major push back by Ukraine.

  9. Thank fucking God. I’ve been waiting for my country to stop being insane for a while now. Hopefully the damage we have done by delaying can be reversed.
