The Senate just passed the Ukraine-Israel-Taiwan aid bill. It now heads to the President’s desk, new aid to Ukraine will likely start rolling to the Polish-Ukrainian border in the next few hours.

  1. Although there was little doubt this would pass in the Senate, am relieved nonetheless.  In part because there have been so many false starts and in part because of an almost superstitious regard for chickens yet to be hatched.

While I often find myself at odds with Senator Graham, tonight I found myself agreeing with his rhetorical cleaver between isolationism and the more amorphously defined America First agenda.  For these ears, his scolding over the Afghanistan withdrawal landed on Trump, suggesting courage to return to a foreign policy of engagement, despite risking reprisals from the GOP Presidential nominee.

Both parties said that tonight’s vote was historic in the defense of democracy.  But I believe that for the GOP, who lost its soul to a golden idol, this vote was both historic and self-defining.  At least the old-school GOP Senators voting Yea needed it to be.  So while I’ll never agree with Mich McConnell on US domestic policy, his effort and that of Speaker Johnson — as a counter to isolationist Trump — must be celebrated.

Zelenski you will have what you need within days.

  2. To quote Limp Bizkit

    Alright, partner

    Keep on rollin’, baby

You know what time it is

  3. Hopefully they do have that stuff literally ready to go. Like tomorrow. Hopefully we aren’t going to hear something stupid like “we’ll have the aid flowing within the next 10 days.”

I remember reading about the early days of World War II in Britain when there was still bureaucratic inertia. During the time that the UK was in desperation mode trying to prepare for a possible Nazi invasion. There were some rifles arriving in Liverpool on a convoy from the US probably. They were going to go through regular channels and get to the southeast coast in days or weeks or something like that. Churchill personally intervened to make sure they were put on trains immediately when they arrived to make sure they got to where they needed to be absolutely as quickly as possible. That’s the kind of intensity we really need to build. Hopefully they are.

  4. I hope people remember who were the adults in the room that would have passed this 6 months ago. Then again, people still think we’re giving physical cash to Ukraine for some fucking reason
