I now sincerely believe this degree of wealth redistribution is also a prerequisite for public support of ambitious climate policy *within* wealthy nations. Baby steps and tiny carbon taxes won’t do much.
I 100% feel that climate change will end up as class warfare. The rich will have the means to adapt – whether through relocation, fortification (for lack of a better term), or both. Those with the means will survive, those without will suffer.
If we do not find a way to redistribute wealth to allow others to survive, society as we know it will fail.
I love the fact that the Nobel ^(Memorial) Prize in Economics was basically stolen valor by neoliberal Chicago School free marketeers from the actual Nobel prize to lend legitimacy to their nonsense, but now they can’t discredit this women who is definitely not towing the line… Nice.
Companies are very good at evading taxes because they have a directive to maximise profits for shareholders. If a series of laws are passed for the purposes of climate, you can bet they’ll find loopholes in them to avoid paying.
Article mentions the climate change ‘loss and damage fund’ of 700 million. It’s really foreign aid under another banner. Countries shouldn’t be entertaining this concept as it’s just the disguised redistribution of wealth, and won’t have any real impact on the climate.
Money should be sent towards infrastructure to produce renewable energy that can replace fossil energy.
