You’re God Ducking Right.
Just because wind and solar can provide a portion of power throughout the day, it doesn’t mean that it can provide all of a countries power needs. Articles like this are misleading. Which ever way you look at it wind and solar are an intermittent source, when the sun’s not shining or the wind isn’t blowing, power must come from another technology, either gas, coal or nuclear generation. For a stable power grid these other generators must be maintained.
Unfortunately wind and solar alone can not meet the power needs of a developed country. Western nations that are falling over themselves to “transition” power grids to wind and solar, by deactivating other forms of electricity generation are setting up their countries for failure through, more expensive electricity, frequent unplanned blackouts, and difficulties in meeting the basic power supply which a developed country requires.
