The text message thing is obvious – but it’s useful for people to see that the trick some arseholes attempt of trying to remove your tenancy rights by claiming you’re a licensee, and having you sign a license agreement, doesn’t work. If you’re a tenant then you’re a tenant – landlords can’t just decide you’re a licensee regardless of what they make you sign.

Remember seeing that video last year. The Guards certainly have a case to answer for their behaviour during the illegal eviction.
How hard is it btw for a landlord to give the proper notice?! You can get a template for the letter on the RTB website ffs.
I remember there was a lot of people on here at the time insisting the landlord and the Gardai could not be at fault and the tenants had obviously made it up (and had a go at Paul Murphy for some reason).
I feel like they might be silent on this article.

These fines are ridiculous. No way is 5 grand going to deter someone from chancing their arm. They absolutely need to give the RTB more teeth and substantially increase fines.
And for repeat offenders, the potential loss of property should be a risk. There’s too many cowboys out there.
