This coupled with increased production and supply from the rest of NATO should help balance the artillery duel in Ukraine. The longer range and more accurate western artillery could give Ukraine the upper hand by this summer.
I know that Canada is going to dramatically increase its 155mm production this year as well. Great Britain has put it’s arms manufacturing on a war footing and France isn’t far behind.
I keep hearing that Ukraine will not have enough arms for a counter offensive but I don’t think analysists know how many arms Ukraine are now producing domestically.
I still don’t understand these numbers. In WW1, in the battle of Verdun, the two European countries, France and Germany fired a total of *40 to 60 million* artillery shells in 10 months and here we’re talking about Europe and the US maybe making a couple of million shells in a year. What the hell? You’d imagine that in 100 years the industrial capacity would have increased massively. And this is now 2 years after the war started. It’s not like we didn’t have time to ramp up the production. So, why aren’t we producing tens of millions of shells a year?
It was a year ago we learned about the shell shortage from the leaks. Now it’s still a year away to do anything significant? This had to be a known issue months before the war even started.
