  1. The interesting thing about holding a snap Holyrood election is that the term is not reset, and there would _have_ to be another election in 2026 regardless. So the incoming government would only have two years to govern.

There’s also the issue of party funding, as u/IndiaOwl points out, it would mean campaigning for 4 different elections for Scottish parties over 3 years (Westminster, 2x Holyrood, Local).

Another thing is current polling (although with today’s news this could change) is showing a very hung and messy parliament- would be interesting to see how governing would work out.

  2. Sir kiddie harmer meddling in things that don’t concern him. Again.

  3. Ayoo and when I said it I got -10. Is this the difference between flirting and harassment?

  4. The NHS is suffering from Tory cuts in England meaning money taken from Scotland. Education is suffering from Tory cuts in England meaning money taken from Scotland.

Scotland and her people need a strong government led by Scottish voices. The instability at the moment caused by the Greens choosing party over country has weakened Scotland and her people.

And Starmer jumps into the limelight salivating about how he can make this about him and his political gains.

    Sicko.

  5. I reckon he must have been doing a Sturgeon style “Ya fucking Dancer’ when he heard the news.

  6. Aye, the Red Tories are salivating at the prospect. First an election, then rowing back devolution.

  7. That’s daft. A Holyrood election before the UK election would hurt Labour at the UK election. There’s a lot of barely restrained anger at the Conservatives at the moment. A Scottish election campaign would take the heat off the Conservatives by redirecting it to the SNP. It would also give the Scottish Conservatives specifically a chance to seem like the good guys, lessening the anger further.

Starmer’s whole pitch is based on anger at the current government and he needs that running as high as possible, because he’s failed to be likeable in himself and he’s failed to set out a noticeably different policy agenda.

  8. He’s right I think the general sentiment is we want a fresh start in politics, he’s just missing including himself in that.

I may not be the biggest fan of the SNP at the moment, but I definitely won’t be voting for labour either.

Frankly which party wants back in Europe I’ll vote for them?

  9. Of course he wants an election, he wants his puppet in charge.

  10. how odd that this has been mentioned here weird how he controls the media

  11. As much as I look forward to the SNP getting thumped at an election, surely a more restrained, minority government is a better idea rather than two elections in two years.

  12. They never seem to understand how Scottish politics works lol.

  13. Im undecided.

My gut says an election seems appropriate.

But given we’d be replacing one minority government with, I suspect, another. Is it urgent? Maybe not.

The SNP will just use the additional rope to continue to hang themselves, a crushing defeat is coming no matter when the vote is called and now they don’t have the voting power to make things much worse.

My hope would be a fresh vote, fresh start and some combination in coalition but I can wait for it.

  14. He knows nothing about Scotland.
He should keep his nose out of our business.

  15. Keir Starmer can keep his fucking nose out of our business.

  16. A Scottish Election now would be a mess, it’s likely the SNP would still remain the largest party, Holyrood polling has suggested that for a while. Unless the Tories and Labour get into bed together we would just end up where we are now, a minority SNP government.
