Cake and singing on PM’s birthday was not a party, says Grant Shapps

  1. They printed some trade deals on the cake icing and added a verse about fiscal policy to happy birthday, so it was all a strictly necessary work meeting.

  2. The real story here is that, apparently, Grant Shapps has never had any friends throw him a birthday party. Maybe he’s just never had any friends. I suggest we all get together – rules allowing – on his next birthday to sing this poor sad person Happy Birthday and give him a cake.

  3. In fairness I don’t think he’s wrong but still getting 30 of them together for this reason inside was against the rules at the time.

  4. The more they argue over semantics the worse they look. I can’t be bothered to listen to them anymore, its all such bullshit.

  5. All that matters is that our rule makers knowingly gathered together when they themselves had made gatherings illegal.
Every new statement of denial is a vile act of disrespect towards the British people.

  6. Fun fact about Shapps or “Michael Green”.

    >However, in March 2015, Shapps admitted to having had a second job while being an MP, and practising business under a pseudonym.[35][36] In his admission, he stated that he had “over-firmly denied” having a second job.[37] Under the name Michael Green, Shapps had offered customers a “get-rich-quick scheme” costing $497, and promised customers a “toolkit” that would earn them $20,000 in 20 days, provided they followed its instructions.[38] In March 2015, Dean Archer, the constituent previously threatened with legal action by Shapps, threatened Shapps with legal action.[39][40][needs update]

  7. So kids across the country have work meetings on their birthday then? Sounds like great preparation for a life of slaving away in monotonous jobs.

  8. I was in a cafe a while back when all the waiting staff took a cake with candles on into the eating area and sang happy birthday to one of the waitress all us customers joined in as well. The cake was cut into slices and left on the counter for people to help themselves to. Was i at a party or not?
