Launched in a new cycle, Paris Saint-Germain wants to make room for players from its academy, with the example of Warren Zaïre-Emery. Internally, President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has set his demands after two regrets in recent years.
It's no secret that Paris Saint-Germain has changed its philosophy. After major departures last summer (Lionel Messi, Neymar, Marco Verratti in particular), the capital club wanted a less "bling-bling" project and more focused on young people.
On the market, the reigning champion of France has invested in promising talent, but also wants to rely on its training center.
Al-Khelaifi annoyed by Tel…
The best example of this change of course? The explosion of the phenomenon Warren Zaïre-Emery (18 years old), who became a starter in the team led by coach Luis Enrique. With a large pool in Île-de-France, the capital club wants to take full advantage of this new vision to attract the best young people and avoid missing them. This new mentality was instilled in part by Paris President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is still scarred by the failures of the past.
Indeed, according to information from the daily L'Equipe on Friday, the Qatari has asked the managers of the training center to account after the failure with striker Mathys Tel, recruited by Rennes from Montrouge in 2020 before leaving for Bayern Munich. Privately, Al-Khelaifi also acknowledges regret over the departure of Christopher Nkunku, who was sold for €19.5m to RB Leipzig in 2019, when the France international could have had a role in Paris.
Enrique, the perfect profile
To avoid reliving such a situation with Nkunku totally barred by competition, PSG can count on Enrique, always ready to trust the youngsters. Again on Wednesday in Lorient (4-1) in Ligue 1, the Spaniard did not hesitate to rely on Senny Mayulu (17 years old) and Yoram Zague (17 years old). On a regular basis, the coach from the Ile-de-France region integrates members of the training centre into his group, on the advice of those in charge. For next season, Enrique should continue in this way, by reinstating Ayman Kari (19 years old) after his loan at Lorient. A youth now flourishing in Paris?
