Trump’s going to have a difficult time selling his defence to a jury – law professor
what we know from the defense opening
statement is that you know that their
defenses he didn’t know you know that
this was all Michael Cohen and you know
he’d asked his attorney to sort of
handle a problem a perfectly legitimate
problem of sort of making somebody go
away with false claims how he did it was
up to the
lawyer yeah I mean look I think I’m a
pretty good lawyer I can’t imagine being
able to sell that story to a jury at
least a jury based on planet Earth but
you’re absolutely right that’s one
defense Trump’s lawyer trotted out in
the opening statement today the other is
the one that your correspondent just
mentioned which is hey I have a spoiler
alert there’s nothing wrong with trying
to influence an election it’s called
democracy and again I think Trump’s
going to have a difficult time with that
because the question under the law is
how you influence an election you know
if I bribes people if I give them a
million dollars to vote for me that’s
influencing an election but it’s illegal
every day of the week and nobody would
call it democracy
After opening statements in Trump’s hush money trial, law professor Neal Katyal says it would be difficult to convince a jury ‘based on planet Earth’ that Trump didn’t know about the payments to the adult film star Stormy Daniels.

The basis of this case is falsifying business records. The hush money payments were recorded as legal fees paid to Cohen, rather than hush money payments to Daniels. But if they had been recorded accurately on the accounts then it would have made public the fact that hush money was being paid and who to, which would have defeated the purpose of the hush money since it would have drawn attention to it. So is it reasonable to expect people to correctly declare hush money payments in their records? I don't know, but this seems like the only reasonable defence. Maybe if Trump had just withdrawn cash from his personal account and handed it to Cohen in a briefcase, instead of claiming it as a business expense he could have gotten away with not declaring it at all. Alternatively he could have just been honest and not tried to keep the affair a secret by paying the hush money in the first place. Or not had an affair while he was married. These are all options.

Neil Katyal is awesome
Fake lying news..just won't stop lying…you can't or the games up..But the people don't believe you so you've already lost..Enemy of the people.
And if Biden did the same it wouldn't Evan be covered in the media .
Will in that case having a rally like a trump rally that's influence of people showed up so why are they not charging Biden with the same thing

What about the 51 intelligence people who openly lied about Hunter's laptop which influenced an election or Hillary paying for the Russian Hoax.
Neal Katyal has argued in front of the Supreme Court multiple times. He KNOWS what he's talking about. Period.
Trump bribed Stormy Daniel and Karen McDougall to keep quiet so the voters would NOT know he paid them not to influence his chances of winning.
I think im a pretty good lawyer bahahaha. Both are these bafoons are complete farkwits
That was mind-bending spin from one of the Trump lawyers!
Bribing someone to keep secret information about a candidate from the public before an election is ANTI-democratic and criminal behaviour!
Donald Trump couldn't care less about democracy. He sees himself as the CEO of the United States Inc. In effect, a dictator.
He has no respect for the justice system which underpins any functioning democracy – in fact he does everything he can to trash it!
He really should be in jail for all the numerous crimes he has committed, both in and out of office.
Thanks Neal Katyal, a fountain of legal knowledge about the US justice system, always pleasant, and Britain's Channel 4 for this clip on YouTube about
the first criminal trial of a former US president in history.
