EU accuses Turkey of ‘backsliding’ on reforms to join bloc

  1. Culturally, Turkey is just too different from the rest of the EU. I get that they want the economic advantage of joining the bloc as a developing nation – but I don’t see them being able to adhere to EU legislation. They’re worse then Poland, by far.

They’d be better off negotiating some trade agreements and coexisting with the EU as cordial neighbors.

  2. You don’t want them anyway, believe me

Not the current version. They need to have some honest elections first, and take a step back away from the Russians

  3. eu: supports erdogan while he consolidates power, and lets not forget erdogan is in power thanks to eu forcing turkey to lift erdogans political ban

also eu: pretends to act suprised after erdogan consolidated power

why is no one stopping erdogan says eu? like who? eu supported erdogan when he was purging kemalists from military, eu supported erdogan when he was filling courts with loyalists, eu supported erdogan when he was filling bureaucracy with gulenists and then loyalists. now eu acts like muh freedom muh values. erdogan will be gone in 2 years, i just hope next admin will not fall the eus trap and try to do the “reforms”

also lets not act like as if eu cares about any of this stuff they say they are worried about. had erdogan just let greeks steal entire east med, or took in another 3 or 5m refugees eu would be in support of erdogan full throttle once again. in these issues he actually represents the will of the people and look at that these are the things eu doesnt like. best allies of west have always been dictators. dealing with a single man who only cares about himself and doesnt answer to people is much easier after all. what eu wishes for turkey is to simply put replace erdogan of today with the erdogan of past when he was more controllable

  4. I mean come on, who in their right mind still thinks turkey joining the eu is possible?

At this point it’s a moot issue, same thing with the economic malaise.

Plenty of other topics to criticize them on apart from these 2
