we’ve seen over the last few days that
the US ordered uh more aircraft carriers
more aircraft and troops as well as uh
ballistic missile destroyers to be moved
into the region in anticipation uh for a
retaliatory strike by the Iranians uh
and what we are hearing is that the
quite a lot of these um drones and
missiles and uh ballistic missiles that
were shot down were actually done so
outside of uh Israeli airspace uh
particularly over uh the um the air
space between Iraq and Syria and of
course Jordan as well the Jordanian Air
Force also joining in although at times
the jordanians are slightly hesitant to
admit that they uh do have a kind of
working relationship with the United
States as well of course the US does
have bases uh in Jordan as well uh but
I’ve had a source uh confirm it to me uh
that the US did have Intel that this
kind of attack was possible the scale of
which however they are calling
unprecedented there’s also a feeling uh
within the government that uh Iran might
have launched this attack knowing that
it would have been thwarted uh and that
really it was all about Optics they
needed to do something big to uh show
that they would respond to this attack
on their Embassy uh in Syria and also
especially for the hardliners inside
Iran itself uh but nevertheless the
United States is treating this as a
legitimate attack on Israel uh that was
thwarted by the Israelis with the help
of the Americans and their allies

FRANCE 24’s correspondent in Washington Fraser Jackson said, “the US had intelligence that this kind of attack was possible, the scale of which however they are calling ‘unprecedented'”. Fraser added that “there is also a feeling within the government that Iran might have launched this attack knowing that it would be thwarted [. . .] they needed to do something big to show that they would respond to the attack on their embassy in Syria”.

  11. Could also be used to probe defenses. They figured it probably wouldn't work but wanted to do it anyway to see what the response would be and to gain intelligence on the tactics used to defend against it
