Pushing sex work underground was always going to leave it open to abuse. We have been so progressive the last few years we really should have a frank discussion around legalizing prostitution and sex work in general.
OP I notice all your posts are on this topic, can I ask are you a sex worker yourself ? Not being an ass just wondering are you coming from personal experience that you could share
Legalising sex work is one of those things twitter liberals like to wank themselves off over (excuse the pun) but the reality is without extremely stringent regulation it becomes an avenue for (state-sanctioned) abuse.
> “Our research clearly shows that criminalising the purchase of sex is forcing sex workers to take more risks while penalising brothel-keeping is preventing sex workers from working together to ensure their own safety.”
I’d be pro legalisation personally but this argument doesn’t really stack up. They’re not being forced to take more risks. They’re choosing to profit from illegal activities because they make more money at it than other jobs.
Good aul prohibition, never fails to work!
Open the brothels.
Do what Victoria Australia is doing, just repeal all laws specific to sex work and treat it the same as all other forms of work.
ie: being a sex worker will be treated no differently to being a construction worker or a university professor
I’m not necessarily against legalising sex work just so that it can be heavily regulated and to take away an avenue for human trafficking and other crime but this idea that a prostitute should be viewed the same as being an electrician or a dentist is a complete fantasy. It should be looked down upon by society as something harmful, the same as drug taking and other vices but it might not be best for it to be illegal. I also don’t think they should he entitled to any sort of employment rights and it should be illegal to publicly advertise. The problem is the same politicians who make it legal won’t stop at just that and everyone knows it. That’s why it might be better to just leave it as it is.
Legal Prostitution?
Ah now r/ireland would ye ever quit your bollox and stick to what your good at..
